Welcome to the 2012 Out & Equal Workplace Summit

Selisse Berry
|
Today's opening plenary was a rousing kick-off to a week full of fabulous plans! We are grateful for each attendee's flexibility and patience in working with Out & Equal to accommodate schedule changes.
Out & Equal's Founding Executive Director Selisse Berry welcomed everyone and thanked us for being here, saying, "If I had to go through a hurricane, I'm glad I'm at least going through it with all of you!" She applauded attendees for their strength and determination in creating safe and equal workplaces around the world.
 | | Harry van Dorenmalen |
Harry van Dorenmalen, Chairman of IBM Europe, graciously stepped in as a special keynote speaker during our Lunch Plenary in light of the revised schedule today. He reminded us that every moment is a moment to speak out for equality and asked each of us to consider that "good policy isn't just paying lip service; culture is something you do when no one is looking." He urged attendees to harness their individual influence and responsibility as LGBT champions, who consistently look for the next step toward equality. "Don't go with the flow," he said. "Always think: if I don't do it, who else?"
The afternoon provided an opportunity for Monday's Leadership Seminar attendees as well as today's newcomers to join moderated discussion groups on a variety of topics addressed in workshops yesterday. Along with time to mingle and network at our Opening Reception sponsored by Deloitte, today's events offered an ideal warm-up for the rest of the week.
Thanks to our sponsor for such an incredible start to the week! |
