I hope everyone had a chance to take a break over the holidays and get re-charged for 2012. It feels like this year is starting off very, very fast and lots of projects that seemed to be far off are suddenly showing up on project timelines. I have been hearing from many of the trainers that they are planning events and trainings for the year and are using Out & Equal resources more and more. We love to hear that!
We are excited to welcome Nancy Mace as Director of Community Empowerment, who will be working with the Regional Affilliates and Employee Resource Groups in the coming months. One of our goals for this year is to bring great programs to local groups; we'd love to hear what you'd like to have in your area.
The big news is the Global Summit in July in London. We are expecting 450-500 attendees for this event which will focus on LGBT global perspectives. We will be featuring 24 workshops that open the discussion about what is happening around the world and how to talk about the experience of being LGBT in so many diverse situations. The learning curve is intense!
This is such a valuable learning opportunity for all of us to expand our awareness. In our planning process, we've recognized the need to rethink our perspectives on everything from how we ask about race and ethnicity to how we teach about the value of diversity. I'll be teaching our Building Bridges course, but rather than teaching it as we do in the US today, we'll convene a panel to discuss the concepts of sexual orientation, gender identity and what the business case looks like in countries that are supportive and hostile to LGBT employees. I am really looking forward to learning from that panel as well as leading it.
We are also expanding our focus for our tracks at the Annual Summit as well. The RFP will ask if the focus of your workshop will be:
- Research & Metrics
- Policy & Benefits
- Professional Development
- Diversity & Community
- Employee Resource Group
- Beyond LGBT Diversity
- Changing Workplace Climate
- Global Perspectives
- Allies
- Coaching & Mentoring Case Studies
- Organizational Excellence
- Personal Development.
- Strategic Planning
- Sponsor Series
- Federal Perspective
- General
If you missed the RFP call on Thursday, January 12, it was
recorded, so be sure to start working on those 2012 proposals. Give us a call if you have suggestions or questions. The workshops are really the heart of the conference, providing the inspiration and the tools to build workplace equality at home. We look forward to seeing what you will offer this year!
