What roads are closed for July 4 concert & fireworks?
In order to protect the safety of the pedestrians and those driving in to the Chisenhall Fields Sports Complex for the City's Independence Day Concert and Fireworks Show, the City will close Hidden Creek Parkway at Irene Street between 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. on July 4. Advance warning signs regarding the closures will be posted at Gardens Boulevard and Irene and at Schumacher Road and Irene. The full closures will be placed at Garrett Street and Irene, on the southwest side of Hidden Creek Parkway, and at the 900 block of Irene near the South Burleson Baptist Church entrance, on the northeast side of Hidden Creek Parkway.
You can enter Chisenhall Fields Sports Complex at the entrance near the Hidden Creek Parkway/Irene intersection and at the main arched entrance on Hidden Creek Parkway. Once the lot fills up, only the arched entrance will be open.
When the fireworks show ends and traffic begins to leave the park, drivers may turn right, only (towards I-35W), out of the Chisenhall Fields main arched entrance on to Hidden Creek Parkway. Drivers may turn left, only, out of the entrance closest to Irene Street. That left turn takes drivers toward the Irene Street intersection and Hwy. 174/Wilshire Boulevard. If you are on Irene Street heading southwest toward Hidden Creek Parkway, Irene will be closed to through traffic at the intersection with Garrett Street, detouring traffic right to Meador Lane then left to Lisa Street then left to Hidden Creek Parkway and finally right to Wilshire Boulevard.
Gates to the complex open at 5 a.m. The fireworks show is slated for 9:20 p.m., so traffic will be moving out of the complex around 9:45 p.m. Come enjoy the show!

Fireworks are not allowed inside the Burleson city limits
The storage, use, possession or sale of fireworks is prohibited inside the city limits of Burleson. The exception to the rule is the City's Fourth of July fireworks show, which is free to the public. That show is slated for approximately 9:20 p.m. on Monday, July 4, at the Chisenhall Fields Sports Complex, 500 W. Hidden Creek Pkwy. A licensed pyrotechnician coordinates the City fireworks show.
"Homes and businesses are too close together, which means that one malfunctioning firework could result in grass fires, house fires and potential injuries," Fire Marshal Stacy Singleton said. "Please be considerate of your neighbors and follow the rules so that we don't have a Fourth of July tragedy." Read more about enforcement.

The second week, Rebecca Gonzales from the Fort Worth Zoo brought feathers, skulls, an elephant ear, eggs, teeth, tusks and more and talked about volunteer opportunities, careers, and educational programs available at the zoo. On week three, students were introduced to miniature donkeys, a chicken, rats, and snakes. The sixth graders also toured the Burleson Animal Shelter and spent time getting to know the puppies, kittens, dogs and cats ready for adoption.

Pets and fireworks don't mix - keep pets inside July 4
More dogs run away on the Fourth of July than on any other day of the year. For many pets, the boom, flash and smell of burning fireworks can trigger their innate flight instinct. The microchip is the only permanent way of identifying a dog or cat and it lasts the lifetime of that pet.
The Burleson Animal Shelter can microchip your pet for $15, regardless of where you live. You have to provide proof of rabies vaccination. Every chip has a unique identification number that links a pet to the owner's personal information. A veterinarian, animal shelter or humane society can use a scanner to read the pet's chip.

Ray Wylie Hubbard had everyone singing along at
final Hot Sounds of Summer concert
The crowd loved Ray Wylie Hubbard! The Texas legend closed out the City of Burleson's 2016 Hot Sounds of Summer concert series on Friday, June 24, in Old Town Burleson. It was a singalong to "Snake Farm" and "Up Against the Wall you Redneck Mother," and a string of even more Hubbard hits. Thank you to our Parks and Recreation staff, the Hot Sounds sponsors, and Ray Wylie Hubbard and his band for a rousing ending to a great Hot Sounds of Sommer concert series.

Be tougher and smarter than those pesky mosquitoes
Are you fighting back against mosquitoes? Standing water is the ideal location for mosquito breeding. The most effective way to reduce mosquito populations is by denying them a place to breed.
The City of Burleson will conduct ground-based spraying for mosquitoes between 9 p.m. on Saturday, July 2, and 5 a.m. on Sunday, July 3, and then again between 4 a.m. and 8 a.m. on Monday, July 4, within a designated spray zone. That zone includes Miller Street, Warren Street, Dobson Street, Gregory Street, Hidden Creek Parkway, Hidden Vistas Boulevard, Irene Street, Arnold Avenue, Elk Drive, and Wilshire Boulevard (see map).
We can't stress enough to use the 4D's:
*DEET - Use insect repellents that contain DEET or any other EPA approved insect repellent.
*Dress - Wear long sleeves and long pants when you are outside.
*Dusk / Dawn - Dusk and dawn are the times of day you should try to stay indoors.
*Drain - Mosquitoes need stagnant water to grow. Eliminate stagnant water from your home and report other areas of stagnant water to the City.
If you have any concerns about mosquito breeding grounds in your area, you can report that online (go to Code Compliance, then Pool/Stagnant water), or contact David Lenartowicz, the City's environmental specialist, at 817-426-9842 or email him.

Have you lost or found a pet? Let the animal shelter know
If your pet has gone missing, it is extremely important that you go by the Burleson Animal Shelter, 775 SE John Jones Dr., to view the animals at least once every 72 hours. You may submit a form online, email the animal shelter, or call 817-426-9283 to make a report. It is very important to send an email to the shelter with a picture of the lost or found animal so the employees know exactly what to look for.
When calling to report a missing pet, please leave the following information: owner's name, owner's address, contact phone numbers, and a description of the pet. Also include any identification tag numbers the pet may be wearing. The shelter staff maintains a list of all the animals reported missing or found. If you have found a pet, you can also submit a form online, email or call. The link for a found pet is the same link for the lost pet. If it is after hours, you can check a found pet for a microchip at the Burleson Animal Emergency Hospital on Alsbury Boulevard, near Albertsons. Please do not give away or rehome a found pet.
