Who's playing the blues? Texas Flood, a Stevie Ray Vaughan Tribute band, is bringing Vaughan's raw high energy of music and stage presence to the City of Burleson's Hot Sounds of Summer concert series tonight, June 10. Signs of bicycle/pedestrian improvements are popping up
The Summercrest to McAlister Pedestrian and Bicycle Improvements project is underway. During the summer months, the contractor will be working in areas where work could disrupt school traffic if done in the fall.
There will be bicycle lanes striped on Thomas Street, and a traffic circle installed in the intersection of Summercrest Boulevard/Thomas that will eliminate the need for the 4-way stop signs. Bike lanes are also being striped on McAlister Road currently. Additional work on the project will be on Summercrest in front of the BRiCk and up to Frazier Elementary School, as well as the trail construction behind the BRiCk and in the Oncor easement between James Circle and McAlister.

Today is the deadline to tell us what you think about police services
June 10 is the last day to take a survey and tell us what you think!
The Burleson Police Department wants to know your opinion about their service to the community. The department conducts a survey every three years that focuses on different aspects of the department's police services as well as questions relating to the community's perceptions of quality of life issues.
You can take the survey online. If you are more comfortable completing handwritten surveys, copies are available in the lobby of the Burleson Police Department, 1161 S.W. Wilshire Blvd. (Wilshire at Elk Drive); Burleson Public Library, 248 S.W. Johnson Ave.; or the lobby of Burleson City Hall, 141 W. Renfro St. You can return the surveys to any one of those three locations. We will take your comments up until 5 p.m. today, June 10. Thank you, in advance, for your input!

Submit your dog's picture in the Doo the Right Thing photo contest
| |
Deadline to submit a picture is June 30
Does your dog have the personality to be cover photo calendar material? Let the public decide. The North Central Texas Regional Stormwater Management Program is hosting a 2017 Doo the Right Thing Calendar Photo Contest. All you have to do is take the pledge to "doo the right thing" then submit a picture of your dog. The deadline is 11:59 p.m. on June 30. The Doo the Right Thing pledge means that you commit to pick up your dog's waste when you are walking, regularly pick up droppings in your yard, and properly dispose of the waste. To be eligible for the full-page image for the month, photos must be at least 3000x2000 pixels and in landscape orientation. Photos of lesser quality or in portrait orientation may be considered as supplemental images for the calendar. You must be a resident of the 16-county North Central Texas Council of Governments region, which includes Tarrant and Johnson Counties, and Burleson, to participate. Qualified submissions will be posted to the contest webpage by the end of July, then, in August, the public gets two weeks to cast a vote for the picture they think should be the cover photo. You can only vote once. Read More about the Doo the Right Thing photo contest.

Be tougher and smarter than those pesky mosquitoes
Are you fighting back against mosquitoes? Standing water is the ideal location for mosquito breeding. The most effective way to reduce mosquito populations is by denying them a place to breed.
Protect yourself! Last year, more than 70 percent of West Nile Virus victims did not use repellent. Defend yourself by using the 4Ds.
*DEET - Use insect repellents that contain DEET or any other EPA approved insect repellent.
*Dress - Wear long sleeves and long pants when you are outside.
*Dusk / Dawn - Dusk and dawn are the times of day you should try to stay indoors.
*Drain - Mosquitoes need stagnant water to grow. Eliminate stagnant water from your home and report other areas of stagnant water to the City.
If you have any concerns about mosquito breeding grounds in your area, you can report that online (go to Code Compliance, then Pool/Stagnant water), or contact David Lenartowicz, the City's environmental specialist, at 817-426-9842 or email him.

Have you lost or found a pet? Let the animal shelter know
If your pet has gone missing, it is extremely important that you go by the Burleson Animal Shelter, 775 SE John Jones Dr., to view the animals at least once every 72 hours. You may submit a form online, email the animal shelter, or call 817-426-9283 to make a report. It is very important to send an email to the shelter with a picture of the lost or found animal so the employees know exactly what to look for.
When calling to report a missing pet, please leave the following information: owner's name, owner's address, contact phone numbers, and a description of the pet. Also include any identification tag numbers the pet may be wearing. The shelter staff maintains a list of all the animals reported missing or found. If you have found a pet, you can also submit a form online, email or call. The link for a found pet is the same link for the lost pet. If it is after hours, you can check a found pet for a microchip at the Burleson Animal Emergency Hospital on Alsbury Boulevard, near Albertsons. Please do not give away or rehome a found pet.
