Check them out on YouTube!

The free 90-minute Hot Sounds of Summer outdoor concerts in Old Town start at 7:30 p.m. The City's stage will be set up on Ellison Street, at the entrance to Burleson City Hall (124 W. Ellison St.). When it rains, please 'Turn Around, Don't Drown'
What roads should you avoid when we got a downpour like we did May 31? Turn around if you are headed to the 700 block of South Dobson Street (by the old soccer fields), Johnson Avenue at Newton Street, Summercrest Boulevard at Thomas Street, Tarrant Street at Miller Street, and the 2100 block of Southwest Hulen Street (under the railroad tracks).

The May 31 flash floods also closed Suzanne Terrace at McNairn Road, Alsbury Boulevard at John Jones Drive, Arnold Avenue, the 100 block of West Bethesda Road, Brooks Road at Houston Road, the 1000 block of Hurst Road at Hidden Creek Parkway, Hidden Creek Parkway at Hidden Lake Drive, the 900 block of Hidden Creek Parkway, Summercrest Boulevard at Sundown Trail, the 300 block of Warren Street, CR 714, 305 W. Bethesda Rd., and the 1200 block of Fox Lane.

When in doubt, turn around, don't drown. Six inches of fast-moving flood water can knock over an adult. It takes just 12 inches of rushing water to carry away a small car, while two feet of rushing water can carry away most vehicles. It is NEVER safe to drive or walk into flood waters.

Deter thieves who are looking for a car to steal
We can help you deter car thieves. All you have to do is participate in the Tri-County Auto Theft Task Force's free VIN Etching at Home Depot on June 21!

VIN etching is the permanent engraving of a vehicle's identification number (VIN) on the windshield and windows. VIN etching serves as protection against auto theft and some insurance companies will offer discounts on your auto policy.

The event is slated for Tuesday, June 21, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., at Home Depot, 300 N.W. John Jones Dr. The Burleson Police Department has one officer assigned to the Tri-County Auto Theft Task Force. If you have any questions about this event or VIN etching in general, please call 817-728-3910.
Veterans, our stray/surrendered/abandoned pets need you
Military veterans, we want you! The Burleson Animal Shelter is looking for military veterans who will volunteer to walk our dogs and play with the cats. Call it pet therapy. Nothing can brighten your day more than making a difference in the life of a dog or cat looking for a second chance.

Military veterans still have to go through a background check, but your role will be working with our pets, one-on-one, to socialize them. No cleaning cages for you! It's a win-win situation. Our shelter pets get a lot of love, attention and exercise, and you leave knowing that you have made a difference for a stray, abandoned or surrendered pet.

If you are interested, contact the Burleson Animal Shelter at 817-426-9283 or email the shelter. The Burleson Animal Shelter hours are 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Tuesday-Friday and 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturdays. We are located at 775 S.E. John Jones Dr. in Burleson, Texas. Stop on by! There are a lot of pets waiting to make a difference in your life too.
Study up on how City taxpayer money is collected and spent
Thanks to a partnership between the City of Burleson and OpenGov, you can explore how City taxpayer money is collected and spent. The new digital platform was launched in February. Go to the Interactive Financial Reports page on the City website and read through how to use the interactive site, then go to the City of Burleson OpenGov site.

OpenGov displays five years of government spending and revenue detail. Explore the City's budget data online in various graphical formats selected by you. Users can manipulate the data and drill down to view details or scale up for the big picture. Users can also download the data as an Excel spreadsheet.

If this interactive format is not your style, you can go to the Finance page on the City of Burleson website and explore Check Registers and Vendor Listings, Your Property Tax Dollars at Work, Annual Reports & Adopted Budgets, the Fee Schedule, Abandoned/Unclaimed Property, and more. For assistance in understanding the Interactive Financial Reports or the Finance pages, please call 817-426-9150 or email Director of Finance Rhett Clark.
Local Yoakam kicked off the City's Hot Sounds of Summer series
You couldn't have asked for a more beautiful night than May 27 to kick off the City of Burleson's 2016 Hot Sounds of Summer concert series. Local Yoakam, a Dwight Yoakam tribute band, was just what we needed to bring the families to Old Town for some great toe-tapping country music. There was even some dancing going on!

Thank you to everyone who came out for a great night of family fun and thank you to Local Yoakam for a great show. To see the rest of the pictures from May 27, go to the Local Yoakam photo album on the City of Burleson, Texas Government Facebook page.
Be tougher and smarter than those pesky mosquitoes
Are you fighting back against mosquitoes? Standing water is the ideal location for mosquito breeding. The most effective way to reduce mosquito populations is by denying them a place to breed.

Protect yourself! Last year, more than 70 percent of West Nile Virus victims did not use repellent. Defend yourself by using the 4Ds.

*DEET - Use insect repellents that contain DEET or any other EPA approved insect repellent.
*Dress - Wear long sleeves and long pants when you are outside.
*Dusk / Dawn - Dusk and dawn are the times of day you should try to stay indoors.
*Drain - Mosquitoes need stagnant water to grow. Eliminate stagnant water from your home and report other areas of stagnant water to the City.

If you have any concerns about mosquito breeding grounds in your area, you can report that online (go to Code Compliance, then Pool/Stagnant water), or contact David Lenartowicz, the City's environmental specialist, at 817-426-9842 or email him.
Have you lost or found a pet? Let the animal shelter know
If your pet has gone missing, it is extremely important that you go by the Burleson Animal Shelter, 775 SE John Jones Dr., to view the animals at least once every 72 hours. You may submit a form onlineemail the animal shelter, or call 817-426-9283 to make a report. It is very important to send an email to the shelter with a picture of the lost or found animal so the employees know exactly what to look for.

When calling to report a missing pet, please leave the following information: owner's name, owner's address, contact phone numbers, and a description of the pet. Also include any identification tag numbers the pet may be wearing. The shelter staff maintains a list of all the animals reported missing or found.

If you have found a pet, you can also submit a form online, email or call. The link for a found pet is the same link for the lost pet. If it is after hours, you can check a found pet for a microchip at the Burleson Animal Emergency Hospital on Alsbury Boulevard, near Albertsons. Please do not give away or rehome a found pet.

The Burleson Animal Shelter is open 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Tuesday-Friday and 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturdays.
