What's happening on Alsbury Boulevard?
In less than a year, you should be able to go from I-35W to Hulen Street via Alsbury Boulevard. The project includes a divided two-lane roadway, an at-grade crossing of the railroad track, a 10-foot-wide multiuse trail, landscaping, and decorative lighting.

Rather than installing a traffic signal at Hulen Street, a roundabout will be constructed to allow the constant flow of traffic. This follows the concepts outlined in the City's Transit Oriented Development Plan and is intended to create a street and area that is designed for both pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Look for the Alsbury Boulevard extension to open to traffic in early 2017.
If you want to be part of CERT, tell us when you want to train
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates members about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact our area and trains them in basic disaster response skills.

Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood, workplace, and community following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help.

This online survey will determine the best scheduling for the next class in September 2016. If you feel that someone you know would be interested in taking the Basic CERT program, please email Jessica Eiswald at the Burleson Fire Marshal's Office. jeiswald@burlesontx.com or 817-426-9177.

We have an app for trash and curbside recycling collection
Life can get crazy and the last thing you want to miss is your trash collection. If you want a friendly reminder when to put your trash, curbside recycling and special collection items at the curb, we have an app for that!

Go to the app store on your mobile device and search "Burleson Waste & Recycling." Download it, and then type in your home address. ReCollect, the app developer, will create the schedule for your next collection, and what will be collected (garbage, garbage and recycling, special pickup/bulk collection week). You can sign up for alerts for unscheduled interruptions to your regular collection service. You set the day and time of day that you want your alerts. The Burleson Waste and Recycling app will also remind you of the City holidays.

We had a huge crowd at the household hazardous waste event
Next event is Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016

There were a lot of people - 261 - at the May 14, 2016, Household Hazardous Waste, Electronic Recycling and Paper Shredding event hosted by the City of Burleson, Fort Worth Environmental Services and Mobile Shred It.

Of those 261 participants, 167 brought in 14,000 pounds of household hazardous waste, 68 dropped off 10,000 pounds of paper to be shredded, and 74 dropped off 5,000 pounds of electronics (mostly computers and TVs). Of the 14,000 pounds in household hazardous waste, more than 8,000 pounds of that was paint.

We have to give a big shout out to the 18 City staff and volunteers from neighborhood services, public works, the police department and fire department who worked the event, non-stop. Thank you to everyone who participated!
To see the rest of the pictures, go to the photo album on the City of Burleson Texas Facebook page.

Subscribe to the 4 D's of repelling mosquitoes now!
Are you being proactive? In 2015, the City of Burleson conducted targeted ground spraying 11 times, between July 9 and Oct. 11, after mosquitoes tested positive for West Nile Virus. May is just the beginning of mosquito season which stretches to October.

The City of Burleson has been actively addressing the mosquito presence in the area, by means of trapping, testing, and treating areas that hold standing water. Standing water is the ideal location for mosquito breeding. The most effective way to reduce mosquito populations is by denying them a place to breed. Protect yourself! Last year, more than 70 percent of West Nile Virus victims did not use repellent. Defend yourself by using the 4Ds.
  • DEET - Use insect repellents that contain DEET or any other EPA approved insect repellent.
  • Dress - Wear long sleeves and long pants when you are outside.
  • Dusk / Dawn - Dusk and dawn are the times of day you should try to stay indoors.
  • Drain - Mosquitoes need stagnant water to grow. Eliminate stagnant water from your home and report other areas of stagnant water to the City.
If you have any concerns about mosquito breeding grounds in your area, you can report that online (go to Code Compliance, then Pool/Stagnant water), or contact David Lenartowicz, the City's environmental specialist, at 817-426-9842 or email him.
Have you lost or found a pet? Let the animal shelter know
If your pet has gone missing, it is extremely important that you go by the Burleson Animal Shelter, 775 SE John Jones Dr., to view the animals at least once every 72 hours. You may submit a form onlineemail the animal shelter, or call 817-426-9283 to make a report. It is very important to send an email to the shelter with a picture of the lost or found animal so the employees know exactly what to look for.

When calling to report a missing pet, please leave the following information: owner's name, owner's address, contact phone numbers, and a description of the pet. Also include any identification tag numbers the pet may be wearing. The shelter staff maintains a list of all the animals reported missing or found.

If you have found a pet, you can also submit a form online, email or call. The link for a found pet is the same link for the lost pet. If it is after hours, you can check a found pet for a microchip at the Burleson Animal Emergency Hospital on Alsbury Boulevard, near Albertsons. Please do not give away or rehome a found pet.

The Burleson Animal Shelter is open 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Tuesday-Friday and 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturdays.
