We'll take your old medication at April 30 Drug Take-Back Event
Residents may drop off unused, expired, or unwanted medications, in both pill and liquid form, for safe disposal at Burleson's Prescription Drug Take-Back event on Saturday, April 30, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The event is at a new location, the Burleson Police Department, 1161 S.W. Wilshire Blvd. (Wilshire Boulevard and Elk Drive).
Burleson partners with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to collect over-the-counter as well as prescription drugs. Trash Bash volunteers will wear the winning design Saturday
If you see folks wearing canary yellow t-shirts in your Burleson neighborhood Saturday morning, give them a round of applause! They signed up as volunteers for Burleson's Trash Bash. Those t-shirts - "Let's Love Our Water Again" - were designed by Makayla Moulton, an eighth grader at Hughes Middle School.
Trash Bash is 9 a.m.-11 a.m., citywide, on April 30. Volunteers of all ages will remove litter and debris from retail corridors, waterways, drainage channels, streets, parks, and other public areas. The wrap-up - which includes pizza, prizes, music from the Bransom Elementary School choir and a visit from a unique sculptor - follows at Warren Park at 11 a.m.

Are you ready for safe summer fun in the pool?
Summer's on its way! Did you get your free Water Watcher tag at the Be Healthy Community 5K/10K and 1-mile Fun Walk on April 23?
A Water Watcher is a designated adult who stays outside of the pool giving 100 percent focused attention to all swimmers. A Water Watcher wears a Water Watcher tag with whistle at all times and never leaves his post until relieved by another Water Watcher.
Did you know a swimmer can drown without a sound? It takes approximately 20 seconds for a person to slip under the water without notice. Water Watchers are the eyes and ears for making sure all swimmers are safe and is one element of many to ensure your safety in and around water. Contact the Burleson Fire Department or Safe Kids if you need a Water Watcher tag for your home.

Stay in the loop on trash/recycling schedule with mobile app
Life can get crazy and the last thing you want to miss is your trash collection. If you want a friendly reminder when to put your trash, curbside recycling and special collection items at the curb, we have an app for that!
Go to the app store on your mobile device and search "Burleson Waste & Recycling." Download it, type in your home address, and you are ready to go! The app will create the schedule for your collection dates, and what will be collected (garbage, garbage and recycling, special pickup/bulk collection week). You can sign up for alerts for unscheduled interruptions to your regular collection service. You set the day and time of day that you want your alerts. The Burleson Waste and Recycling app will also remind you of the City holidays. If you don't want a mobile app, you can find the same information on the ReCollect page on this website.
Waste Wizard will answer your questions. If you type in "carpet," Waste Wizard will tell you that carpet and underpadding is accepted for special trash pickup/bulk collection and that it has to be cut into 4-foot rolls. Type in "Freon" and Waste Wizard will tell you there is no curbside collection for hazardous waste, but that you can take advantage of the City's household hazardous waste collection events, or use the Environmental Collection Center in Fort Worth. You can even report a problem on the app. Read more about the Burleson Waste & Recycling app.

Keep your eyes on the skies & your ears tuned to weather updates
It is severe weather season! Burleson is extremely fortunate to have four major TV news stations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. If you haven't already, go to the app store on your mobile device and download the TV station's weather apps. If you're not signed up for the City of Burleson's Everbridge emergency alert system, you can do that online. If you are signed up for Everbridge, the City will alert you to severe thunderstorm warnings (70 mph winds or higher and/or quarter-size hail) based on the geographic location you list on your Everbridge profile. Tornado warnings will be issued for all Everbridge subscribers, regardless of where you live in the city.
If you are home or have a TV at work, be sure to tune in to your favorite news station for updates. If you are on the road, turn that dial to the news radio stations. You can also track the National Weather Service's Fort Worth Office and your local news stations on Facebook and Twitter.
And finally, if you have family, neighbors, friends or co-workers who do not use mobile technology, please check on them today and make sure they are aware of the potential for severe weather. Let's all watch out for each other!

Have you lost or found a pet? Let the animal shelter know
If your pet has gone missing, it is extremely important that you go by the Burleson Animal Shelter, 775 SE John Jones Dr., to view the animals at least once every 72 hours. You may submit a form online, email the animal shelter, or call 817-426-9283 to make a report. It is very important to send an email to the shelter with a picture of the lost or found animal so the employees know exactly what to look for.
When calling to report a missing pet, please leave the following information: owner's name, owner's address, contact phone numbers, and a description of the pet. Also include any identification tag numbers the pet may be wearing. The shelter staff maintains a list of all the animals reported missing or found. If you have found a pet, you can also submit a form online, email or call. The link for a found pet is the same link for the lost pet. If it is after hours, you can check a found pet for a microchip at the Burleson Animal Emergency Hospital on Alsbury Boulevard, near Albertsons. Please do not give away or rehome a found pet.
