Eason is named Burleson's Rookie Firefighter of the Year
Life is pretty rosy for Ben Eason. He is a father-to-be and the Burleson Fire Department's 2015 Rookie Firefighter of the Year. The firefighter/EMT accepted the honor at the department's awards banquet on Feb. 20. His lieutenant, Mike Jones, did the honors.

"Ben started with the department in November of 2014. He was first assigned to a 'swing' shift which allowed him to work at all three stations with various crews. He was able to adapt and he joyfully completed any task asked of him with a big kid smile," the lieutenant said. "He is always trying to better himself by asking his crew for constructive criticism after a difficult run to asking pop quiz questions around the station to better his knowledge." Please watch out for public works employees in work zones
Please, be on the lookout for our public works employees in work zones. In the coming weeks they will be along Hwy. 174, Renfro Street, Alsbury Boulevard at Summercrest Boulevard, Hidden Creek Parkway at I-35W, and Alsbury at Renfro Street. They will be changing and/or repairing street light fixtures, doing preventive maintenance on all signals and school zone flashers, converting signalized intersections and street lights to LED, and replacing signal indicators were needed. SLOW DOWN, move over one lane, and give them room to work.
High producing officer earns Rookie of the Year honors
His wedding anniversary may be Jason Tauch's lucky charm. He was hired by the Burleson Police Department on May 14, 2014, his wedding anniversary, and excelled quickly, earning him the department's 2015 Rookie Officer of the Year honors. The award was presented on Feb. 25 at the department's awards banquet.

"Officer Tauch is recognized as leader by his peers and sets an example for other officers in his daily actions, judgment and conduct," according to the nomination. "Officer Tauch is noted for his professionalism in every situation, his thoroughness in his enforcement action and his general attitude on a daily basis. Officer Tauch is a high producing officer on his shift, an active member of the department's SWAT team, and can be called on for any task within the department and he will carry it out to the best of his ability."

The 41-year-old Dickinson native said he was honored to receive the award, but noted that "my receiving this reflects on the training and leadership that I had during this time. The field training officers and sergeants are the ones who earned this. I, or any recipient, is only a reflection of the work they have done to maintain the reputation of the Burleson Police Department." Read more about the Rookie Police Officer of the Year.

You can put a stop to the more than 1 trillion gallons of water that are wasted each year as a result of household leaks. And, Home Depot can help.

And the finale is at 11:20 a.m. with Repair/replace faulty sprinkler heads. For more information about the workshops go to the Save Tarrant Water website.
Pribble repeats as Burleson Firefighter of the Year
This isn't the first time that James Pribble has taken home Firefighter of the Year honors. He won the award in 2006, and repeated in 2015.

Firefighting is definitely in Pribble's blood. His father Robert Pribble and grandfather Foy Dunaway were volunteer firefighters who retired from Burleson after serving for 20-plus years each. His brother Chris Pribble is a battalion chief for the Joshua Volunteer Fire Department; sister, Holly Hill works for the Hurst Police Department; brother-in-law Diron Hill is a police officer with Southlake; and sister-in-law Stephanie Pribble works for the Cleburne Fire Department.

James Pribble secured a career firefighter position with Burleson on May 26, 2003. His firefighting career includes volunteering for the Briaroaks Fire Department (started in 1995 and worked up the ranks to assistant chief/2010-2013) for 15 years and Burleson for one year. He also worked for the Forest Hill Fire Department in 2002 and was part-time fire chief for the Johnson County Emergency Services District, 2013-2015. Read more about the Firefighter of the Year.

Officer of the Year distinguished himself in DWI enforcement
You could call Officer Andrew Prieskorn a repeat performer. He took home the 2013 Rookie Officer of the Year honors, then last week he was honored again, this time with the 2015 Officer of the Year award for the Burleson Police Department.

The 35-year-old Detroit, Michigan, native was hired by Burleson on Aug. 1, 2012. Since he was awarded the Rookie honor, Prieskorn has joined the department's SWAT Team and is in the bicycle patrol unit. He has also distinguished himself in DWI enforcement.

"Officer Prieskorn led the department in DWI enforcement for the past year," according to his nomination. "He works with new officers in training to help them understand the complicated tasks associated with DWI enforcement." Read more about this honoree.

Ofelia Blair Character Award goes to Officer Bauereisen
Tiffany Bauereisen is the first person in her family to pursue a career in law enforcement, and she has done it with a gusto that earned her Burleson Police Department's 2012 Officer of the Year honors and the 2015 Ofelia Blair Character Award.

Ofelia Blair worked as a clerk in the department's criminal investigations section. She lost her battle with cancer in 2003, two years before Bauereisen started her first night on patrol in Burleson.

"I have always heard how very special she was to everyone so receiving her award for outstanding character traits is a great honor," Bauereisen said.

The award recognizes dedication, professionalism, compassion, and empathy. According to the nomination, "Officer Bauereisen is the kind of officer who can give you a shoulder to cry on or a lesson in tough love. She has mentored many young juveniles in the community and held them accountable for their actions in the future.  She has also been involved in training several of our officers, which has helped shape the professional department we have today."
