Municipal Court is open late today so you can pay your fines
Tickets that are ignored turn into warrants. If you have fines that you have not paid to the City of Burleson's Municipal Court, your time is running out. Arrests will be made and unpaid fines will be collected during the Great Texas Warrant Roundup in March.
The focus is on Class C misdemeanor warrants, the majority of which are traffic-related offenses. Although the focus is on Class C warrants, higher charge warrants may also be served. If you don't know if you have an outstanding warrant, call the Burleson Municipal Court warrant department at 817-426-9298, or the court in which you received a citation.
The municipal court staff extended the court's hours of operation this month. Regular business hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 pm., and Wednesday, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Today, Feb. 19, and Friday, Feb. 26, the court will be open late, 8 a.m.-7 p.m., to give people who have warrants time to come in and take care of them before the warrant roundup. The court is located inside the Burleson sub courthouse at 247 Elk Dr., Room 114 (across from Burleson High School). Find out how you can pay your outstanding warrants.

Donated rain barrels are now beautiful works of art
A rain barrel is a rain barrel. But a rain barrel painted by Bettie Bailey is transformed into a work of art. A company called Questar donated five rain barrels to Keep Burleson Beautiful. Bettie Bailey brought them to life with her paintings of a barn, garden path, bluebonnets, and a stream. You might even find a Texas Longhorn and a Horned Frog on a barrel or two. One barrel is at Russell Farm and four are at the Burleson Public Library.
The Burleson Public Library and Parks division (all under the umbrella of Recreation & Lifelong Learning), Keep Burleson Beautiful, and community organizations and volunteers, started an educational garden at the library at 248 S.W. Johnson Ave. The garden focuses on outdoor learning and sustainable gardening techniques that are relevant to citizens in the community. The education garden was jumpstarted with a $1,100 grant from Lowe's Home Improvement Store and Keep Texas Beautiful. The garden is still a work in progress so stay tuned!

Change the batteries in your smoke alarms March 13
Spring break for Burleson Independent School District students will start off with one less hour of sleep. At 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 13, turn those clocks forward one hour to 3 a.m. By springing forward you lose one hour of sleep on March 13, but you gain more hours of daylight in the evenings so you might make it home in time to see the sun set.
When you change your clocks, don't forget to change the batteries in your smoke detectors. And, if your smoke alarms are more than 10 years old, instead of replacing the batteries, replace the alarm. If you have questions about your smoke detectors, please call the Burleson Fire Department at 817-426-9170.
Daylight saving time also means the City's cemetery, Burleson Memorial Park, will get spruced up. All items that are not permanently attached to the memorial or marker will be removed after the time changes. Items will be removed from gravesites the week of March 13-19.
