Valentine Dance tickets are on sale now at the BRiCk
Dance with your daughter or son on Saturday, Feb. 13, as the City's parks and recreation department hosts the annual Father/Daughter & Mother/Son Valentine Dance at the BRiCk. There will be two times - 4 p.m.-6:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.-9 p.m.
The fun includes pictures, corsages, dinner (salad and pizza), dancing, and games. Parents compete against parents and children compete against children. There's also a three-legged race so girls, shed those heels before you and your partner make a break for the finish line.

Know what to do before your power goes out
Do you know what to do when your power goes out? Only call 911 if it is a hazard (you hear a pop or explosion, see smoke, see tree limbs hitting the wires, etc.). If it is a hazard, the fire department will respond. Contact your electric provider after you contact 911. If it is a power outage due to storms, call your electric provider, not 911.

If you are an Oncor customer, you can report your outage via text. You have to know your ESI ID number (which is listed on your TXU Energy bill) or your phone number needs to be registered with your account to set up the text option. Text 'reg' to 66267 (ONCOR) to register; text 'out' to report your outage; or text 'stat' to to receive an update on your outage. If you prefer to call, the power outage notification number for Oncor is 1-888-313-4747. You can also check out the outages in your area by going to the Oncor outage map

If you are a United Cooperative Services customer, to report an outage, call your local office (Burleson, 817-447-9292) or use the Text Outage feature. To expedite restoration efforts, have your account number handy. Text the word UNITED to 85700 and follow the prompts. Text OUT to report an outage at your location and text STATUS to receive an update on your outage status. Members must have five accounts or less to enroll, and all five accounts can be registered. Your cell phone number must be on file with UCS prior to registering for outage text messaging. UCS also has an Outage Dashboard to check for outages in your area.

How do you know if a tornado warning is issued?
How will you know if a tornado warning or severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Burleson? The City of Burleson, in partnership with Everbridge, will contact you. But you have to be in our system. If you are not sure if you are in the system, please contact us at 817-426-9176.

To sign up, go to the City of Burleson Alert System page, on the City website. Choose how you want to be contacted, the number of phones and email addresses you want included, and the order in which you want to be contacted. You can include your home and work address, your child's school and/or daycare, or your parents/grandparents' home. You can set a "quiet time" for messages (tornado messages will be sent regardless of quiet times) and choose which weather warnings you want to receive.

Check the Notifications on your cell phone and make sure that Emergency Alerts under Government Alerts (bottom of the list) are turned on. The National Weather Service will send weather alerts to you based on your location. If you are out of town or driving and don't have TV/Radio/social media readily accessible, you will still be warned about a tornado or severe weather so that you have time to seek shelter. And please, if you have older relatives, neighbors, co-workers or friends who are not plugged in to social media or weather alerts, please reach out to them when you are notified of the potential for severe weather.
The dates are set for the 2016 Yappy Hour pet adoptions!
You've been asking about Yappy Hour dates for 2016, and we have them!

The Burleson Animal Shelter and Lost Oak Winery are teaming up for Yappy Hour on Friday, April 22, and Friday, Sept. 23, both 7 p.m.-10 p.m., at the winery. Shelter staff will bring adoptable pets to Yappy Hour for on-site adoptions. And everyone is encouraged to bring their own pets, on a leash. We'll update you when the rest of the details are ironed out!
