It's time to face off for a good-hearted game of flag football!
Are you ready for some football? The Heart for the Kids benefit game is Saturday, Dec. 12.

The flag football game is at 1 p.m. at Burleson Stadium, 100 Elk Dr. This is the 14th year that the Burleson Professional Fire Fighters Association Local #4025 and Burleson Police Officers Association have hosted the benefit. Through the annual Heart for the Kids flag football game, you can donate one unwrapped toy to Heart for the Kids, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.

Heart for the Kids provides new toys/gifts for each child (teens included); new outfit of clothes (a school uniform if required); new shoes, socks and underwear; and, each family is also provided with a box of food for Christmas dinner, if needed. The Heart for the Kids toys/gifts wish list includes bicycles, scooters and toys for children of all ages - newborn to 17 - as well as wallets, purses and jewelry for older teens. Diapers for the babies are also welcome.

We promise a flag football game full of fun, laughter, and some good old fashioned rivalry. Come on out!

Kelly Mearns tapped as Employee of the Quarter
Kelly Mearns has had a lot on her plate in 2015, and she has handled it with professionalism and a positive attitude. The executive assistant for the City Manager's Office took on two major projects, in addition to all of her regular duties. That successful juggling earned her the City of Burleson Employee of the Quarter honors for the fourth quarter of 2015.

Mearns was part of a two-person team that took on the project of redesigning the City's website. That project started in the fall of 2014 - nonstop with training, design, and content management - until the website redesign reveal in July 2015. Since then the team has been putting the finishing touches on what will be the City's first mobile app.

While she was working on the CivicPlus website redesign project, the award winner was doing double duty spearheading a new software program, Agenda Quick, for creating agendas for City Council, Planning and Zoning, and City boards/committees. That project also involved training City directors and managers and working with the vendor to work out issues along the way. Read more about Employee of the Quarter

Oh what a sight! Christmas fireworks lit up the night Dec. 5
The big Christmas in Burleson finale Dec. 5 included the lighting of the official City Christmas tree, an awesome 10-minute fireworks show choreographed to Trans-Siberian Orchestra Christmas music, and some great entertainment by our dancers and singers on the City stage.

Mayor Ken Shetter read a Christmas story to the children before bringing Santa Claus up on stage. Helping Santa light the Christmas tree were the two coloring contest winners - Drew Blair and Taylor Killpatrick - as well as Kaylie Miller, Mayor of the Day.

Thank you for making Dec. 5, 2015, such a great family event in Burleson, Texas. To see the rest of the pictures, go to the City of Burleson Tree Lighting and Fireworks Show album on the City Facebook page.
We've giving a shout out to our dedicated City employees!
More than 40 City of Burleson employees were honored at the City's annual awards luncheon Dec. 10 for their years of service to the City.

Taking the cake is Tom Clark, chief engineering inspector, for his 25 years of service. He was hired by the City of Burleson on Oct. 16, 1990, as a crew leader in the water department. Clark was promoted to engineering inspector on May 1, 1998, then transferred to gas well development inspector on Nov. 1, 2010. On Sept. 22, 2014, Clark was promoted to his current position.

Two employees marked 20 years with the City in 2015. They are Terri Joslin, senior meter service technician, and Gayla Robison, property room coordinator for the Burleson Police Department.

It was November 6, 1995, when Gayla Robison was hired by the Burleson Police Department as a records clerk. She was promoted to property and evidence technician on April 7, 1999, and to property room coordinator on May 26, 2005.

Terri Joslin joined the City of Burleson on Feb. 16, 1995, as a parks maintenance worker in the parks department. She moved to facilities maintenance, then was promoted to meter service worker for utility customer services on June 1, 1998. On Sept. 16, 1999, Joslin was promoted to meter service technician. Santa was busy at the BRiCk's Breakfast with Santa Dec. 5
It was a full house, right around 1,200 people, Dec. 5 at the 16th annual Breakfast with Santa hosted by the City's parks and recreation department.

The BRiCk was bustling with families who lined up for a pancake and sausage breakfast, face painting, craft making, train building, and yes, visits with the big guy from the North Pole.

We had a blast, and we hope you did too! Big shout out to the City staff and the volunteers who made Breakfast with Santa so special.

Streets were packed for the Parade of Lights Dec. 5
How did you enjoy the Burleson Rotary Club's Parade of Lights Dec. 5?

There was a little something for everyone from decorated jeeps, to trick cyclists, floats, bands, and more. And Santa Claus and his three helpers were the stars of the final float.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Christmas parade, and for all of you who cheered them on as the parade wound down Johnson Avenue to Burleson's Old Town.
