Yes, there is a Christmas parade in Burleson, Dec. 5!
The Burleson Rotary Club is hosting the Parade of Lights that steps off from Kerr Middle School at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5. Twinkling lights are a must on each parade entry.

Fees in the four categories range from $10-$45. Santa will be on that last Parade of Lights float. His final stop for the day is the corner of Johnson Avenue and Ellison Street, which will be bustling with dancers and singers entertaining the parade crowd. For more information about the parade, call Lisa Keese at 817-447-7300. The parade application is available on the Burleson Rotary Club website.
Be careful when you're cooking on Thanksgiving Day
Thanksgiving is the peak day for home cooking fires, according to the United States Fire Administration. The average number of home fires on Thanksgiving Day is normally double the average number of fires in homes all other days. According to the USFA, Thanksgiving Day fires in residential buildings occurred most frequently between noon and 3 p.m. Check out these tips for a happy and safe Thanksgiving.
We've closed part of Ellison, temporarily, for seal coating
The parking areas in Old Town along Main Street and Ellison are being seal coated over the next few days. The seal coating will cover up the existing parking space striping. The parking spaces will be restriped the week after Thanksgiving. Until that time if you are coming to Old Town, please continue to park at the normal angle for one-way traffic southbound and northbound. Remember, Main Street is one way southbound on the side adjacent to the buildings and one way northbound on the side next to the railroad tracks. Thank you for your patience!
We have a new City Christmas tree!
It's up! The City of Burleson's Parks Department put up the City's brand new 24-foot Christmas tree, topped with a 4-foot star, this week. This one will be decked out with thousands of twinkling lights.

The City tree is located at the corner of Ellison Street and Johnson Avenue. You can take family pictures in front of the new tree this weekend (Thanksgiving weekend) but the tree will not be lit during the Thanksgiving break. You'll have to wait for Saturday, Dec. 5, at 7 p.m., when Santa Claus and his helpers flip the switch on the lights during the City's tree lighting/fireworks celebration. Read up on all of the Dec. 5 Christmas festivities in Burleson!
Be a vendor, be a shopper at Dec. 12 Christmas Craft Fair

The fair takes place 9 a.m.-2 p.m. and showcases one-of-a-kind handmade items - sewn creations, art, jewelry, and more - from area vendors. Want to know more about the craft fair?

Thieves and burglars are looking for easy targets
Are you shopping this weekend? Be extra vigilant. This week, Burleson Police Det. Owen arrested a man at Walmart for loading gift cards using other people's identifying information.  This is the fourth arrest in a week in Burleson of people using stolen identifying information on gift cards.

What can you do? When you use your credit card, debit card and identification cards at a register, be aware of everyone around you. Thanks to modern technology, a person with bad intentions can record your register transactions by simply using the video feature on a cell phone.

Don't leave your purse in the shopping cart. If possible, use a purse that has a strap that crosses your body. Leaving your purse in a shopping cart while you turn around to get an item off a shelf in a crowded store can expose your personal information to anybody walking by. If you choose to hide your purse and or merchandise in your vehicle, hide it before you arrive at your next shopping destination

Your personal information is much more valuable than the items on your shopping list. It takes a long time to get your name and credit repaired so safeguard it. Thieves are looking for an easy target. Don't be one.
Animal shelter wants military veterans to aid in socializing pets
Military veterans, we want you! The Burleson Animal Shelter is looking for military veterans who will volunteer to walk our dogs and play with the cats. Call it pet therapy. Nothing can brighten your day more than making a difference in the life of a dog or cat looking for a second chance.

Military veterans still have to go through a background check, but your role will be working with our pets, one-on-one, to socialize them. No cleaning cages for you! It's a win-win situation. Our shelter pets get a lot of love, attention and exercise, and you leave knowing that you have made a difference for a stray, abandoned or surrendered pet.

If you are interested, contact Animal Control Supervisor Kim Peckler at 817-426-9281, the main desk at 817-426-9283, or email us. The Burleson Animal Shelter hours are 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Tuesday-Friday and 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturdays. We are located at 775 S.E. John Jones Dr. To see the pets you may be interacting with, go to the Burleson Animal Services Petango webpage
Don't let a burglar ruin your vacation
Are you making vacation plans? You can request a free Vacation Home Check from the Burleson Police Department for the time that you are gone.

Fill out a Vacation Home Check form online. The police need your name, address, contact information, departure date/destination and return date, your local emergency contact, and vehicle and home security information. The security checks will be limited to no more than 14 consecutive days and not more than 30 days per year.

The goal is to have your home checked on an average of once every 24 hours, workload permitting. For more information, call 817-426-9903.
