Senior crew leader earns Employee of the Quarter honors
If you have been to any City event, you know the City's newest Employee of the Quarter. Alton Fore was selected from a field of eight nominees representing the City's Public Works Department.

Fore, 47, is the senior crew leader for the pavement maintenance division of the City of Burleson's public works department. In that capacity, he and his crew repair streets, overlay streets, repair the subgrade if needed, do concrete repair, and assist other departments, including with traffic control, when needed.

The community knows the award winner best for his special assignment work - setting barricades for parades and 5K runs, helping with the set up for the Hot Sounds of Summer concerts, and working the Household Hazardous Waste/Electronic Recycling/Paper Shredding events, Boo Bash, and the Military Veteran Tribute. We've closed part of Ellison, temporarily, for seal coating
The parking areas in Old Town along Main Street and Ellison are being seal coated over the next few days. The seal coating will cover up the existing parking space striping. The parking spaces will be restriped the week after Thanksgiving. Until that time if you are coming to Old Town, please continue to park at the normal angle for one-way traffic southbound and northbound. Remember, Main Street is one way southbound on the side adjacent to the buildings and one way northbound on the side next to the railroad tracks. Thank you for your patience!
Animal shelter wants military veterans to aid in socializing pets
Military veterans, we want you! The Burleson Animal Shelter is looking for military veterans who will volunteer to walk our dogs and play with the cats. Call it pet therapy. Nothing can brighten your day more than making a difference in the life of a dog or cat looking for a second chance.

Military veterans still have to go through a background check, but your role will be working with our pets, one-on-one, to socialize them. No cleaning cages for you! It's a win-win situation. Our shelter pets get a lot of love, attention and exercise, and you leave knowing that you have made a difference for a stray, abandoned or surrendered pet.

If you are interested, contact Animal Control Supervisor Kim Peckler at 817-426-9281, the main desk at 817-426-9283, or email us. The Burleson Animal Shelter hours are 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Tuesday-Friday and 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturdays. We are located at 775 S.E. John Jones Dr. To see the pets you may be interacting with, go to the Burleson Animal Services Petango webpage

Food for Fines brings in 98 pounds of donations
Thanks to the Burleson Public Library's Food for Fines program, needy families have more resources. Library card holders donated 98 pounds of food and personal hygiene items during the Food for Fines program. Patrons were asked to donate new, unopened personal hygiene products and nonperishable food items to the library. In return, that patron received a credit of $1 per item and $2 per high need item, then the items were donated to the Harvest House. The total amount waived by the library during the Oct. 26 - Nov. 6 campaign was $176. Pictured are Heather Huse, library support services supervisor, and Library Director Marc Marchand. For more about Harvest House, go to their website.
