Command Sgt. Major Retired Bill May is Nov. 7 tribute speaker
You are invited to stand with us to honor the service and sacrifices of our military veterans.
The City's annual Military Veteran Tribute is on Saturday, Nov. 7, at 2 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Plaza, 298 E. Renfro St. (corner of Renfro and the I-35W service road). Burleson Mayor Pro Tem Dan McClendon is the emcee and Command Sgt. Major Retired Bill May is the guest speaker. He retired in 2013 after 30 years in the United States Army. May's culminating assignment was as the Commandant of the III Corps and Fort Hood Non Commissioned Officer Academy, the largest NCO Academy in the Army. Today, he serves as a regional coordinator with the education and employment initiative (E2I), and helps recovering service members find employment. The event includes the posting of colors and a ceremonial wreath, a firing party, bagpipes, and patriotic music. You'll have to look up to see the Burleson Police Department's honor guard do the honor salute and the playing of "Taps" from the balcony of the B&G Building.
Police Chief Billy Cordell will do the honors with the invocation and the Pledge of Allegiance. Meghan Gardner, a Burleson ROTC student, is singing the "National Anthem" and her fellow ROTC members will present the wreath. The Burleson Fire Department Honor Guard will present the colors and Steve Pruitt will play "Amazing Grace" on the bagpipes. The finale is the singing of " Salute to the Armed Forces."

Main St. This is only open to residents who live inside the Burleson city limits (proof of residency including a City water or solid waste bill is required).
City staff will load up your household hazardous waste items, on a first-come, first-served basis, in the City of Fort Worth's Crud Cruiser. Valuables belong at home, not in your unlocked vehicle
Holiday shopping season is fast approaching so it is even more important to drive home the word to remove all valuables/ important items from your vehicle and lock it up.
The Burleson Police Department has had several bursts of burglaries where criminals walk up to a vehicle and simply open the unlocked door and take whatever is inside. Last week, officers took 30 reports of vehicle burglaries across Burleson, mainly in and around the Mistletoe Hills, Oak Valley, and Hidden Vistas neighborhoods. Each vehicle was left unlocked. Items taken include laptops, tablets, cash, credit/debit cards, jewelry, fishing gear, and firearms.
Take proactive steps to reduce your chances of becoming a victim of vehicle burglary. Remove anything of value from your car/ truck. Do not leave firearms in your vehicle overnight! Roll up the windows, lock the doors, and set the alarm. It is that simple!Last but not least, call 9-1-1 immediately to report suspicious activity.

Second time was a charm for Boo Bash fun
What a night! There were minions, super heroes, a farmer and some polka dotted cows (and a really big dog!), cuddly critters, and more at the City's annual Boo Bash in Old Town Burleson. Weather caused the event to be postponed from the original Oct. 24 date, but it sure didn't dampen the fun had by the families and vendors on Halloween night! Thank you to all of the vendors who came out to make this event happen, and for the families who made us smile with all of their costumes.
To see all of the Boo Bash pictures, go to the City of Burleson Facebook's Boo Bash photo album.

Today is last day to receive forgiveness on library fines
The Food for Fines program ends today! Burleson Public Library patrons who owe library fines can get as much as $30 forgiven via the library's Food for Fines program. Instead of digging into their pockets to pay the fines, patrons can search their pantry for food or buy some extra hygiene products, then drop those donations off at the library. The library will donate the Food for Fines program items to Harvest House.
Patrons are asked to bring new, unopened personal hygiene products and nonperishable food items to the library to receive credit of $1 per item and $2 per high need item. A maximum of $30 can be waived. High need items, as designated by Harvest House, are packages of toilet paper, toothpaste and toothbrushes, bar soap, shampoo and conditioner, razors, feminine hygiene products, deodorant, and laundry soap. Ani-Meals is great way to help the homebound and their pets
If you want to make a difference in the life of an elderly or homebound resident and their pets, please become a part of the Ani-Meals pet food program. Ani-Meals is a partnership between Meals-on-Wheels of Johnson and Ellis counties and area animal shelters. Ani-Meals started because Meals-on-Wheels staff and volunteers found that the homebound elderly clients were sharing their own meals with their pets because they could not afford to buy pet food. Many of the clients have large dogs, not only for companionship but for protection as well. The Burleson Animal Shelter helps coordinate the program and stores the donated pet food.
On the first Saturday of each month, Meals-on-Wheels volunteers meet at the Burleson Animal Shelter on John Jones Drive to pick up and deliver the donated pet food to 10 to 20 Meals-on-Wheels recipients in Burleson. If you want to donate pet food (large bags would be appreciated for the big dogs), toys, or treats, please call the animal shelter at 817-426-9283 for more information. Ani-Meals donations can be dropped off at the Burleson Animal Shelter, 775 SE John Jones Dr. in Burleson, between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., Tuesday-Friday and 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturdays. Read More

Military veterans, share your stories with us
Our military veterans have stories that they may have never told about their service to this country. Now they can, through three veteran programs coordinated by the Burleson Public Library. You can honor a military veteran through Operation Remember, Bricks for Veterans, and the Burleson Veterans History Project.
Operation Remember archives the personal histories (pictures and biographies) of Burleson's military veterans. Bricks for Veterans is a project started in 2007 at Veterans Memorial Plaza, 298 E. Renfro St. Veteran bricks are $15 each and include the veteran's name, branch of service, and any conflict(s) in which he or she may have been involved.
The Burleson Veterans History Project is linked to the Library of Congress' Veterans History Project. Library staff provides veterans with field kits that give them an overview of the process. The kit also includes a registration form and a copy of the questions that will be asked during the interview. Library staff then schedules the veteran's interview with the Burleson Heritage Foundation, which was instrumental in kicking off the history project in 2003. Read More
