Clean out medicine cabinets for Sept. 26 Drug Take Back event
Have you cleaned out your medicine cabinets? The City, in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration, will be hosting the National Prescription Drug Take-Back event on Saturday, Sept. 26, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the City's old service center at 133 N. Main St. The Burleson Police Department and the Citizens on Patrol will be working this event. Residents may drop off unused, expired or unwanted medications, in both pill and liquid form, for safe disposal. This includes over-the-counter as well as prescription drugs. Proper disposal of medicines protects you by preventing poisoning of children and pets; deterring misuse by teenagers and adults; avoiding health problems from accidentally taking the wrong medicine, too much of the same medicine, or a medicine that is too old to work well; and, keeping medicines from entering streams and rivers when poured down the drain or flushed down the toilet. For more information about Burleson's September 26 event, call Sgt. Bob Sherman at 817-426-9951. Read More

Don't wait, communicate - Make your emergency plan today
September is National Preparedness Month (NPM). The 2015 NPM theme is "Don't Wait. Communicate. Make Your Emergency Plan Today." We are encouraging everyone to take part, make a plan and know what to do during an emergency. This means having an up-to-date contact list for those you may need to reach during a disaster and establishing alternate methods of communication in case traditional means are not available. With the help of the Department of Homeland Security's Ready.gov website, we'll walk you through how to reconnect with family after a disaster; how to plan for specific needs before a disaster; how to build an emergency kit; and how to practice for an emergency. Check back with us throughout the month for more tips on how you can make a difference for yourself and for your family, friends and neighbors! Want to get a head start? Visit the Ready.gov website.
