Six cited in 2-hour railroad crossing enforcement
You have to stop. It could save your life. The Burleson Police Department's traffic unit, Union Pacific Railroad Police Department, and City marshals coordinated a railroad crossing enforcement detail in Burleson on Wednesday, Aug. 26. Why? To remind drivers that flashing red lights at railroad crossings are the same as a stop sign, and may save lives. The detail was just two hours, 2 p.m.-4 p.m., at four railroad crossings - Renfro Street, Ellison Street and Eldred Street (all in Old Town) and Alsbury Boulevard on the north side of Burleson. One of the marshals rode the train for a bird's-eye view of the tracks and to communicate with the officers on the ground. The officers stopped eight vehicles and issued six citations and two warnings. Three of the citations were handed out, along with education about Operation Lifesaver, at the Renfro crossing and three were issued at the Alsbury crossing. Read More

It's all on Saturday, Oct. 10, in Old Town Burleson. You have traditional bluegrass, hot country music/bluegrass/western swing, and "bluegrass with a demon's edge." So mark your calendar now, then check back for the schedule of headliners. If you want to jump on board as a vendor, fill out the vendor application.

Governor appoints fire lieutenant to state commission
Burleson Fire Lt. Mike Jones was one of four appointed by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott to the 13-member board of the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP). The commissioners adopt policies which become state administrative laws. The 39-year-old lieutenant/firefighter for Burleson was hired in April 1999 as part of the second group of the City's first career firefighters. He is the president of the Burleson Professional Firefighters Association and is a member of the Texas State Firefighters Association and the International Association of Firefighters. This isn't his first leadership role with the commission. Jones was appointed to the TCFP Firefighter Advisory Board in April 2009. That committee is responsible for drafting and reviewing the administrative rules that govern the state's fire service. Read More

Restrictions on watering landscape are year-round
The outdoor water restrictions that were most recently enacted in Burleson in June 2013 became permanent in April 2014 due to a required change in the City's water conservation plan. If your residential address ends in an even number (0, 2, 4, 6, 8) you can use an irrigation system to water your landscape on Wednesdays and Saturdays. If your residential address ends in an odd number (1, 3, 5, 7, 9) you can use an irrigation system to water on Thursdays and Sundays. All non-residential water locations (apartment complexes, businesses, industries, parks, medians, etc.) may water on Tuesdays and Fridays. Monday is a no-water day. Since 2009, Burleson has banned watering with irrigation or sprinkler systems, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., year round. This includes residential and non-residential customers. That restriction is in place because up to 30 percent of the water sprayed on lawns during the heat of the day can be lost to evaporation.
