Clear the (Animal) Shelter August 15
Be the first in line when the Burleson Animal Shelter opens early, at 10 a.m., on Saturday, Aug. 15, to see if you can find the perfect four-legged match for your home. The Burleson Animal Shelter, along with more than four dozen other regional animal shelters, is participating in the national Clear the Shelters Day. You can view all of the Burleson Animal Shelter dogs and cats that are available for adoption online. You can even view their videos. The event is hosted by NBC5 and Telemundo 39. Burleson's hours at the 775 S.E. John Jones Dr. location are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Participating shelters have agreed to waive all adoption fees on Aug. 15. however, other shelter fees may still apply. Adoptable pets that are not altered will be required to be altered, at the new owner's expense. Read More
McGuire & Crum promoted to captains with BPD
Two sergeants have been promoted to the newly created rank of captain in the Burleson Police Department. Sgt. Melvin McGuire will lead the operations bureau and Sgt. Randy Crum will lead the support bureau. McGuire will serve under Deputy Chief Chris Havens. Crum will serve under Deputy Chief Doug Sandifer. The appointments are effective Aug. 31, 2015. McGuire is three months shy of his 26th year with the Burleson Police Department. He is certified as a Master Peace Officer and has considerable experience in patrol, criminal investigations, narcotics operations and 13 years of supervisory experience. Crum is a 22-year veteran with the Burleson Police Department. He is also certified as a Master Peace Officer and has experience in patrol, administration, and technology-based operations. He has been a supervisor for 16 years. Read More
City features three movies in Old Town Picture Show
The City and the Old Town Burleson Association are bringing back the old days of gathering to watch movies outdoors by hosting the free Old Town Picture Show on three consecutive Saturdays - Sept. 26, Oct. 3 and Oct. 10. Showtime is 8 p.m. The movies include the original "Toy Story," (1995), on Sept. 26; "McFarland USA," a 2015 Disney movie, on Oct. 3; and "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory," (1971), on Oct. 10. Jumping on board to help host the Old Town Picture Show are Family Toyota of Burleson, the feature film sponsor; Art Brucks State Farm Insurance, Wild About Harry's, and Birth, Stewart & Fletcher Orthodontics as leading role sponsors; and Sassy Frass Boutique and Rebecca's: A Sassy Boutique as supporting role sponsors. Come early and shop and eat at our Old Town stores and restaurants, or bring your own chairs, blankets, and picnic for this family fun night. Read More 
'Is this for real' said winner of $100 credit
James Day was the lucky winner of the monthly drawing for a $100 credit to his City utility account. The drawing is an incentive for utilizing the bank draft feature to pay your City of Burleson utility account. All customers who choose (or currently use) this option are entered into the monthly drawing. Sign up now so you have a chance to be one of the prize winners this fiscal year. Simply fill out an application online, or stop by the Utility Customer Service office located at Burleson City Hall, 141 W. Renfro St., 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday. The staff can start the process to automatically debit your checking account for your utility statement balance. For more information, call 817-426-9601.
Two-hour commitment makes a difference
Your commitment of two hours, 9 a.m.-11 a.m., on Sept. 26 will make a difference. The City and Keep Burleson Beautiful are hosting the Burleson Trash Bash. Volunteers of all ages remove litter and debris from retail corridors, waterways, drainage channels, streets, parks, and other public areas. Youth participants must have adult supervision. After the cleanup, head to Warren Park for free pizza and prize drawings. Get your group leader packet and sign up online or call 817-426-9842 for more details.
Be a vendor or entertainer at City's 23rd Founders Day
If you want to be part of the entertainment at the 23rd annual Founders Day celebration on Oct. 10, call 817-426-9112. You can be a vendor or, if you have musical talent, you might just get a spot on the entertainment schedule. Vendor applications are on the City website. Call 817-447-1575 if you are interested in a booth. The historical celebration is 9 a.m.-5 p.m. in the original Old Town Burleson (124 W. Ellison St.). Look for strolling minstrels, fiddle players, a car show, food trucks, and more. The event kicks off just before 9 a.m. with a parade down Ellison Street.
We are taking a break on Labor Day!

Most City facilities will be closed Monday, Sept. 7, in observance of Labor Day. There will be no trash or curbside recycling collection. If you are on the Monday trash/curbside recycling collection schedule, your next trash collection day is Thursday, Sept. 10 and your next curbside recycling day is Monday, Sept. 14. Hidden Creek Golf Course will be open for normal hours, 6 a.m.-8 p.m., on Labor Day. Remember to stop by the BRiCk and swim for free on Sept. 7, which is also the last day the outdoor pool will be open. All BRiCk indoor facilities will be closed on Labor Day. The Sept. 7 Burleson City Council meeting will take place on Sept. 8. Read More

We need YOU to serve on City boards and commissions 

We need you! The City of Burleson is seeking at least one applicant for each of the eight City committees, boards and commissions. Those include the Animal Shelter Advisory Committee, Building Codes & Standards Board, Cemetery Board, Library Board, Old Town Design Standards Review Committee, Park Board, Planning & Zoning Commission, and Zoning Board of Adjustment. The deadline to apply is August 31. You can apply online. Board appointments will be made at the Sept. 21 city council meeting. Read More

Do you want to know how a vote or discussion went at a Burleson City Council meeting or budget workshop? View the video, live or at your leisure, on the City website. Click on the meeting date, then click on the item you are interested in. There is also a tab for streaming video of the Planning and Zoning Commission. Official minutes of council and commission meetings and workshops and work sessions are not posted on the City website until the city council and/or commission members have approved those minutes at their next scheduled meeting.
