Library is picked for national Family Place Library program
The Burleson Public Library is one of 24 libraries in Texas to be invited to participate in the Family Place Library Program. The goal of this national program is to expand the role of public libraries as community centers. The Texas State Library and Archives Commission's initiative connects children's librarians and libraries in 27 states and in more than 400 sites nationwide to help build healthy communities and healthy families recognizing that literacy begins at birth. F amily Place Libraries redesign the library environment to be welcoming and appropriate for children beginning at birth; connect parents with the resources, programs and services offered at the library and other family service agencies; and reach out to non-traditional library users. This creates the network families need to nurture their children's development during the critical first years of life and helps ensure all children enter school ready and able to learn. Read More

They are learning how to be firefighters
If you see a lot of youngsters hanging out at the Burleson fire stations for the next two weeks, they are there to learn! The Burleson Fire Department's free Junior Fire Academy is for students who are entering the fifth grade in the fall of 2015. The first academy is July 27-30 and the second is Aug. 3-6. The rosters are already filled. Participants receive their own bunker gear, tour the fire stations, and learn about disaster safety, extrication, fire safety, fire hydrants, fire hoses, and search and rescue. The soon-to-be fifth graders will be learning just what it takes to be a firefighter. Check out the City of Burleson Facebook for the pictures.

Yes, the water restrictions are permanent
The water restrictions enacted in 2011 are year-round. If your residential address ends in an even number (0, 2, 4, 6, 8) you can use an irrigation system to water your landscape on Wednesdays and Saturdays. If your residential address ends in an odd number you can use an irrigation system to water on Thursdays and Sundays. All non-residential water locations (apartment complexes, businesses, industries, parks, medians, etc.) may water on Tuesdays and Fridays. Monday is a no-water day. Since 2009, Burleson has banned watering with irrigation or sprinkler systems, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., year round. Lawns and landscaping may be watered on any day with a hand-held hose, drip irrigation, soaker hose or tree bubbler. Irrigation using alternative water sources - a well or reclaimed or reused water - are excluded from the irrigation restrictions.
