Learn how to set up a solar powered rain barrel and drip irrigation. The garden at Russell Farm includes a rain barrel painted by Bettie Bailey, a solar drip, and a drought tolerant garden project. The purpose of Texas SmartScape is to educate citizens on the ecological, economic and aesthetic benefits of using landscaping plants, shrubs, grasses and trees that are native or adapted to our regional climate and local conditions. The ultimate goal is to conserve local water supplies and improve storm water runoff quality by reducing the amount of water needed to maintain landscapes while also decreasing the amounts of pesticide, fertilizer and herbicides used in landscaping practices. Yes, the water restrictions are permanent
The water restrictions enacted in 2011 are year-round. If your residential address ends in an even number (0, 2, 4, 6, 8) you can use an irrigation system to water your landscape on Wednesdays and Saturdays. If your residential address ends in an odd number you can use an irrigation system to water on Thursdays and Sundays. All non-residential water locations (apartment complexes, businesses, industries, parks, medians, etc.) may water on Tuesdays and Fridays. Monday is a no-water day. Since 2009, Burleson has banned watering with irrigation or sprinkler systems, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., year round. Lawns and landscaping may be watered on any day with a hand-held hose, drip irrigation, soaker hose or tree bubbler. Irrigation using alternative water sources - a well or reclaimed or reused water - are excluded from the irrigation restrictions.
July is Watch Your Car Month

Secure your vehicle! According to the Texas Crime Clock, in 2013 a burglary of a motor vehicle happened every two minutes and a vehicle theft every eight minutes. Texas Department of Public Safety reports indicate that more motor vehicle thefts and burglaries are committed in July than in any other month. The Tri-County Auto Burglary and Theft Prevention Task Force, of which the Burleson Police Department is a member, reminds you to remove your valuables, remove your keys and always secure your vehicle. Car burglars will target vehicles when items are left in plain view such as GPS devices, purses, phones, etc. What can you do? Don't leave your vehicle running while unattended; don't leave your keys in the ignition; and don't leave valuables in plain sight. Protect it, it's yours!
