Get the skinny on the parade traffic!
The Fourth of July celebration starts at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 4, with the Burleson Lions Club's 11th annual Independence Day Parade. The parade route winds from Irene Street to Gregory, Johnson, Ellison, Warren, Gregory, and back to Irene. This is different from past years, due to the construction in Old Town. Residential streets around the parade staging area (Lena, Irene, Dian, Gregory) will be closed starting at 6:30 a.m. on July 4. Johnson Avenue, between Gardens Boulevard and Renfro Street - including all side streets along the entire parade route - will be closed between 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Read More

Leave fireworks outside the city limits
Nothing has changed, but if you are new to Burleson and unsure about the do's and don'ts with fireworks, this is for you! The storage, use, possession or sale of fireworks is prohibited inside the city and within 5,000 feet of the corporate limits of the City of Burleson. The exception to the rule is the City's Fourth of July fireworks show, which is free to the public. Violations of the fire code are subject to a fine of up to $2,000. Each day that a violation is permitted to exist is a separate offense. The City of Burleson's 5,000-foot rule was added as an amendment to the City's fire ordinance in August 2006. Fireworks stands must be more than 5,000 feet outside the city limits. For fireworks safety tips from the Tarrant County Fire Marshal's office, go to the Tarrant County website.

Le Freak drew a record crowd
We should be dancing, yeh! And they were with "the greatest disco band in the land." Through sun, wind and rain, it was Le Freak closing out the City's 2015 Hot Sounds of Summer concert series in Old Town Burleson on June 26. Le Freak was first class family entertainment with a lot of nostalgia mixed in for the '80s fans in the crowd of between 5,000 and 7,000 people. Le Freak knows how to get you up on your feet, and stay there! A little rain blew through in the final minutes of the 90-minute concert, but that didn't stop the band from playing the finale . . . Journey. If you liked Le Freak this year, we have good news . . . a little bird said Le Freak is coming back in 2016! To see the rest of the pictures, go to the Le Freak Hot Sounds of Summer album on the City of Burleson Facebook page.

Scammers target the BRiCk
Another week, another scam . . . last week callers were scamming residents saying that they needed your credit card information to pay warrants or fees due to the Burleson Municipal Court. This week the callers are trying to scam you using the BRiCk (Burleson Recreation Center). A woman called the BRiCk this morning and said that the caller told her they were from a collection agency and that she owed $50 to the BRiCk. She does not have a current BRiCk membership or owe the B...RiCk anything. The BRiCk does not make collection phone calls other than rental fee reminders. Notification on BRiCk letterhead is sent by mail for any monies owing for payment returns or other balances due. Fees for rentals are due in full no less than 48 hours prior to the event date. Reminder phone calls about these fees are made directly by BRiCk employees. Memberships are either paid in full at time of purchase, set up as automatic bank draft or set up to auto debit from debit or credit card. Activities and other services are required to be paid in full at time of purchase. Never give out your credit card information or any other personal information over the phone, email or text. Please, call the BRiCk at 817-426-9104 (or Municipal Court, if that scam is still active, at 817-426-9220), and report the call.

Protect your pets this holiday weekend
Dogs experience the world through their nose, eyes and ears so sudden loud booms, flashes and the smell of something burning can traumatize them. Fireworks can result in severe burns or trauma to the face and paws of curious pets. Even unused fireworks can pose a danger because some fireworks contain potentially toxic substances, including potassium nitrate, arsenic and other heavy metals. Pets should be kept in a quiet, sheltered and escape-proof area at home. If you can't be there, ask someone to check on your dog every four hours. And, be sure to treat your pet to a long walk before you leave so they might be more inclined to sleep through the patriotic celebration. Bring outside dogs in to keep them from bolting when fireworks are launched. Be extra sure that all of your pets have identification on them. A collar with a rabies tag and an identification tag are a must. A collar or harness with the rabies tag attached is required, by City ordinance, to be displayed on all pets. Having your pet implanted with a microchip is a good way to ensure that you will be reunited with your pet if it does get lost. The staff at the Burleson Animal Shelter can microchip your dog or cat for only $15.

Look up Saturday morning
Make sure you watch the skies Saturday morning! The Burleson Lions Club worked with the FAA and secured permission for a U.S. Marines Super Cobra to perform a flyover at the July 4th Parade. According to the Marines.com website, no aircraft defines the role of close air support better than the Marine AH-1 Super Cobra/Viper. Whether it's providing cover for advancing ground forces or escorting assault support helicopters en route to a landing zone, the AH-1Z is called on when Marines need firepower from the air. The parade steps off from Kerr Middle School at 9 a.m.

Check out July 4th road closures
We want to keep you safe at the City's Independence Day celebration at Hidden Creek Sports Complex July 4th! The City will close Hidden Creek Parkway at Irene Street between 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. Advanced warning signs regarding the closures will be posted at Gardens and Irene and at Schumacher and Irene. The full closures will be placed at Garrett and Irene, on the southwest side of Hidden Creek Parkway, and at the 900 block of Irene near the South Burleson Baptist Church entrance, on the northeast side of Hidden Creek Parkway. You can enter Chisenhall Fields Complex at the entrance near the Hidden Creek/Irene Street intersection and at the main arched entrance on Hidden Creek. Once the lot fills up, only the arched entrance will be open. Once the complex' parking lot is full no other vehicles will be allowed in the park. When the event is over and vehicles start leaving the complex, for safety reasons, no vehicles will be allowed to enter the complex for approximately 30-40 minutes so that pedestrians and vehicles can clear the park. When traffic begins to leave the park, drivers may turn right, only (towards I-35W), out of the Chisenhall Fields main arched entrance on to Hidden Creek. Drivers may turn left, only, out of the entrance closest to Irene Street. That left turn takes drivers toward the Irene Street intersection and Hwy. 174/Wilshire Boulevard. Read More
