Le Freak is back for Hot Sounds!
Le Freak is bringing disco back to Burleson tonight, June 26! Le Freak, "the greatest disco band in the land," is such a hit with Burleson's Hot Sounds of Summer concert fans that Le Freak is back for their third year. The 90-minute concert starts at 7:30 p.m. in Old Town. Le Freak has been described as an intensely UNIQUE, high energy, high quality, danceable entertainment with their own disco renditions of "You Should Be Dancing," "Freak Out," "Car Wash," "Get Down Tonight," "Funky Town," "Brick House," and even a Journey medley. Come down early and eat and shop at our Old Town restaurants and stores, then set up your lawn chairs and blankets in the street for the concert. The City stage will be set up at the Ellison Street entrance to city hall. If you have business in Old Town today, the parking spaces on Ellison Street, between Warren and Wilson Streets, will be closed off starting at 12 p.m. (noon). We don't want your vehicles to get trapped in the concert arena! Now brush up on your disco and wear your dancing shoes . . . it's going to be a hot night in Old Town Burleson!

It's a scam - - - we're not asking for $
We are not calling, emailing or texting you asking for money. According to Constance White, director of court services, the Burleson Municipal Court is getting reports that people are being contacted and told that they have to pay warrants or fees to the court. The caller asks for the person's credit card information. If you receive a phone call, email or text from someone claiming to be from the court asking for your credit card information, please call the court at 817-426-9220.

Swim lessons & water safety . . .
Water safety is so important. Last week the BRiCk participated in the World's Largest Swim Lesson in hopes of not only helping break the Guinness World Record but to bring awareness to the importance of swim lessons and water safety! Drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional injury-related death for children ages 1-14. If children are enrolled in swim lessons between the ages of 1 - 4, the risk of drowning is reduced by 88 percent. For more about swim lessons at the BRiCk, go to the Learn-to-Swim Program page on the City website. For more about water safety, check out this article & video, "Drowning Doesn't Look Like Drowning."

Buddy Whittington had them dancing
It was a humid humid night, but Buddy Whittington and the Buddy Whittington Band had people up and dancing at the City's fourth Hot Sounds of Summer concert in Old Town on June 19. This was Whittington's second time to headline the 5-week concert series in Old Town. Fans were having a good time shouting out requests and singing along with the blues and steel guitar. Leave fireworks outside the city limits
Nothing has changed, but if you are new to Burleson and unsure about the do's and don'ts with fireworks, this is for you! The storage, use, possession or sale of fireworks is prohibited inside the city and within 5,000 feet of the corporate limits of the City of Burleson. The exception to the rule is the City's Fourth of July fireworks show, which is free to the public. Violations of the fire code are subject to a fine of up to $2,000. Each day that a violation is permitted to exist is a separate offense. The City of Burleson's 5,000-foot rule was added as an amendment to the City's fire ordinance in August 2006. Fireworks stands must be more than 5,000 feet outside the city limits. For fireworks safety tips from the Tarrant County Fire Marshal's office, go to the Tarrant County website.

Have an emergency contact card?
Great tip from the Burleson Police Department! Create an Emergency Contact Card and place it in your wallet/purse and your glove box. This will help first responders in the event you are unable to respond after an accident or medical emergency. Include medical information. Laminate the card to protect it from the elements. You can get as creative as you want but don't include your address, Social Security Number, or date of birth just in case the card gets misplaced or stolen. First responders can get that information from your driver's license (as long as your address is up to date).Having this information available could help save your life and make notifying loved ones quick and easy for first responders!

Check out July 4th road closures
We want to keep you safe at the City's Independence Day celebration at Hidden Creek Sports Complex July 4th! The City will close Hidden Creek Parkway at Irene Street between 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. Advanced warning signs regarding the closures will be posted at Gardens and Irene and at Schumacher and Irene. The full closures will be placed at Garrett and Irene, on the southwest side of Hidden Creek Parkway, and at the 900 block of Irene near the South Burleson Baptist Church entrance, on the northeast side of Hidden Creek Parkway. You can enter Chisenhall Fields Complex at the entrance near the Hidden Creek/Irene Street intersection and at the main arched entrance on Hidden Creek. Once the lot fills up, only the arched entrance will be open. Once the complex' parking lot is full no other vehicles will be allowed in the park. When the event is over and vehicles start leaving the complex, for safety reasons, no vehicles will be allowed to enter the complex for approximately 30-40 minutes so that pedestrians and vehicles can clear the park. When traffic begins to leave the park, drivers may turn right, only (towards I-35W), out of the Chisenhall Fields main arched entrance on to Hidden Creek. Drivers may turn left, only, out of the entrance closest to Irene Street. That left turn takes drivers toward the Irene Street intersection and Hwy. 174/Wilshire Boulevard. If you are on Irene Street heading southwest toward Hidden Creek Parkway, Irene will be closed to through traffic at the intersection with Garrett Street, detouring traffic right to Meador Lane then left to Lisa Street then left to Hidden Creek and finally right to Wilshire Boulevard.
