There's dining, shopping and more
There's dining, shopping, and more to enjoy in Burleson's Old Town district. The improvements in Old Town are currently dividing Ellison Street at the railroad tracks (intersection of Main Street and Ellison Street). If you're coming to Old Town to eat, shop, or just hang out and listen to the music, be sure to check in at your favorite spots on both sides of the track. Construction on this project started in March and is expected to wrap in September. To see what it's going to look like when it's done, go to the Old Town Improvements page and click on the links at the bottom of the page.

More than 70 joined City staff at Bailey lake for fishing and camping
Bailey Lake was hopping this past weekend with the City's Far Out Family Fun Campout and Fishing Adventures! Tents started going up at 1 p.m. on April 25 and they cleared out after breakfast at 8 a.m. Sunday. Nineteen families - approximately 75 people - registered for the popular event around the City's lake at 280 W. Hidden Creek Pkwy. (near Chisenhall Fields Sports Complex). The storms Friday night kept most of the fish in hiding, but the master naturalists made up for that by taking the campers on a nature hike, talking about bats (and making bat houses), enjoying hot dogs and s'mores, and camping out under the stars. Three campers won fishing poles for the biggest catch. Thank you to everyone who made it happen and for those who camped out under the stars with us! More pictures

You don't have to confirm the warning
We changed the way that we give you a heads up about severe thunderstorm or tornado warnings. The City's emergency management division has disabled the confirming feature so that you no longer have to confirm (press 1) that you received the Everbridge emergency notification message. The City uses the system to alert residents and businesses to severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings, water disconnect for non-payment alerts, street maintenance work, water line maintenance, spraying for mosquitoes, and more. To opt in for the emergency alerts, go to City of Burleson Alert System page. Click on "sign up" at the bottom of the page. Everbridge will ask for a username and password, your first and last name, a security question, and a registration email. Once you have signed up, you create your profile. Read More

Rain didn't cancel Arbor Day celebration
Thank you to the second graders from Frazier Elementary and everyone from the community who showed up to celebrate Arbor Day with us! On April 24, Mayor Pro Tem Dan McClendon, a representative from Lowe's Home Improvement store, and six Frazier second graders turned the ceremonial dirt on a tree next to the BRiCk's outdoor pool at Bartlett Park. Everyone took home one free seedling (Live Oaks, Bur Oaks, Shumard Oaks, and Bald Cypress). The year 2015 is the City of Burleson's 26th year as a designated Tree City USA. More pictures

Please, get your pets microchipped
After back-to-back storms, now is a great time to remind everyone to microchip their pets. If your pets get loose or get scared and run away from home during a storm, you want someone to be able to positively identify them so you can be reunited. The Burleson Animal Shelter offers microchipping for $15, regardless of where the pet owner lives. The pet's owner must provide proof of rabies vaccination to get the microchip. The process is similar to receiving a needle vaccination. Each chip has a unique identification number that links the pet to the owner's personal information. Get your pet microchipped during normal Burleson Animal Shelter hours - 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturdays. For more information call 817-426-9283 or email the staff.

Volunteers cleaned up Burleson!
Burleson's April 25 Trash Bash drew 147 volunteers who picked up 75 bags of trash. That equals about 1,500 pounds of litter removed from the City's retail corridors, drainage channels, streets, parks, and other public areas citywide. April 25 marked the 17th annual Trash Bash in the city. The event is hosted by Keep Burleson Beautiful. Following the cleanup, volunteers enjoyed pizza and prizes at Warren Park. Mark your calendars for the next Burleson Trash Bash - Saturday, Sept. 26. To see the rest of the pictures, go to the Burleson Trash Bash album on the City of Burleson Texas Facebook page.
