Police investigator earns City's first Employee of the Quarter honor in 2015

He has that "every guy" ability to relate with all facets of the community, and that sets people at ease. That's important when your career field is law enforcement. Burleson Police Investigator Larry Sparks was selected as the City's first Employee of the Quarter for 2015. He was one of 13 nominated from the public safety field, which includes the fire department, police department and fire marshal's office. According to the nomination, Sparks' "knowledge of narcotics and the 'players' within our area is second to none. He is a vital and integral part of what Burleson Police Department does every day on the street. He strives to keep drugs out of our city and away from our kids. He is one of the most driven narcotics officers I have met." Read More

Firefighters open their house April 18

Burleson's Fire Station #1 will be buzzing April 18 as the Burleson Fire Department hosts an Open House for the community. The free fun is noon to 3 p.m. PHI air ambulance will be landing, MedStar ambulance will make the scene, and there will be tours of the fire trucks. Texas Health Huguley's Mobile Health Services Bus is hosting a kiddie obstacle course, promoting a healthy, active lifestyle, and, showing what it takes to be a fit firefighter. You can step in to the fire safety trailer to see what can happen if something is left unattended on the stove, and how quickly smoke can fill a room. And, what would a fire department open house be without a race to see who can get the fire gear on first? Read More

Help us eliminate illegal dumping

You've seen it, but did you know that it is illegal? The City of Burleson is asking for your help in eliminating illegal dumping and unsightly littering in our streets, alleys, and other public right-of-ways as well as on private and commercial properties. Illegal dumping is any unauthorized disposal of waste or unwanted materials - construction and demolition debris; appliances; abandoned vehicles, automobile parts and tires; old, used, or soiled furniture, and more - on any public or private property. Illegal dumping often happens late at night to avoid detection. People usually dump illegally to avoid collection and disposal fees, or because they believe proper disposal is just "too much trouble." Read More
