Fourteen trucks out of service after Commercial Vehicle Enforcement

The roads are safer today, thanks to a multi-agency Commercial Vehicle Enforcement (CVE) detail Jan. 21 at Burleson's I-35W Commercial Vehicle Inspection area. Fifty trucks were inspected, 14 federal citations and two state citations were issued, 141 federal warnings and 15 state warnings were handed out, and 14 commercial vehicles - 28 percent of the vehicles - were placed out of service for violations. The focus of the CVE detail is on vehicle weights, motor carrier safety, vehicle registration, transportation of persons, and hazardous materials. Why are commercial vehicle inspections important to residents of Burleson? Interstate 35, also known as the NAFTA corridor, runs from Mexico to Canada. Every truck that uses the NAFTA corridor goes through Burleson. Rest of the story.

Phones/online payments down Saturday

If you have a non-emergency on Saturday, Jan. 24, and need to call the police, dial 817-295-1118. The City's IT staff is working on the City's network on Saturday, so 817-295-1118 will be the number to call between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. All City phones, with the exception of the Senior Activity Center, are on the network so those phones will be out of service during the six-hour timeframe. The City's online payment system for traffic citations and water/trash payments will also be down Jan. 24. Check the City's social media sites for notification that the phones are back up.

Attitude and work ethic earn Stanton Rookie Firefighter of the Year

He may be a rookie firefighter for the Burleson Fire Department, but Josh Stanton is no stranger to the field of firefighting. His attitude and work ethic earned Stanton the Burleson Fire Department's Rookie Firefighter of the Year award for 2014. The 25-year-old firefighter/paramedic joined Burleson's department in October 2013 after serving as a firefighter/paramedic for the Kennedale Fire Department. Lt. Greg Mason said Stanton "always comes to work smiling and ready to go. He has shown an eagerness to learn and the willingness to accomplish his goals. His attitude and initiative have shown he is a team player." More

Water taste/odor issues dissipate

The Tarrant Regional Water District completed the repair on the Richland Chambers pipeline on Thursday, Jan. 15. The City of Fort Worth is getting 100 percent of its water from the Richland Chambers pipeline at the Rolling Hills water treatment plant. The City of Burleson had fielded a handful of complaints Jan. 12 about the taste and odor of the drinking water, so our public works department checked with the City of Fort Worth, which is the source of Burleson's water supply. On Jan. 8, a break occurred on the water line from Richland-Chambers Reservoir. This required switching the water supply for the Rolling Hills water treatment plant to only water from Lake Benbrook, which experienced a slight rise in Geosmin levels. Bottom line, the water is safe for drinking, cooking, bathing. More

Watch out for McAlister construction

If you regularly travel McAlister Road, be on the lookout for "road work ahead" signs. The City's contractor is working on storm drain improvements on McAlister, from Mesquite Drive north. Parts of the sidewalk are also not accessible. This area includes Mistletoe Park, in the 900 block of Northeast McAlister. The project is expected to take a couple of months to complete.

Years of service, training and responses noted at firefighter banquet

Fifteen years of service, more than 900 training hours, and 1,381 calls during 2014 . . . those were among the awards earned during the Burleson Fire Department's annual banquet Jan. 17. Three lieutenants were recognized for their 15 years of service as career firefighters for the City. They include Greg Mason, Mike Jones and Jeremiah Lozier. A fourth fire lieutenant, Duane Wines, was applauded for earning the most training hours, 914.5, in 2014. And, the crew on C shift at Fire Station #1 was named the busiest shift with 1,381 out of the department's 3,912 calls in 2014. That's 35.3 percent of the total calls. That crew included Mason, Engineer Robert Schoonover, and firefighters Rob Moore and David Franks. More

Water restrictions are max of twice per week and not between 10 am and 6 pm

What are the water restrictions for City of Burleson water customers? The City of Burleson purchases its water from the City of Fort Worth, so since April 2014, the outdoor water restrictions have been a maximum twice per week landscape restriction, year-round. Since 2009, Burleson has banned watering with irrigation or sprinkler systems, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., year round. This includes residential and non-residential customers. If your residential address ends in an even number (0, 2, 4, 6, 8) you can use an irrigation system to water your landscape on Wednesdays and Saturdays. If your residential address ends in an odd number (1, 3, 5, 7, 9) you can use an irrigation system to water on Thursdays and Sundays. All non-residential water locations (apartment complexes, businesses, industries, parks, medians, etc.) may water on Tuesdays and Fridays. Monday is a no-water day. Lawns and landscaping may be watered on any day with a handheld hose, drip irrigation, soaker hose or tree bubbler. Irrigation using alternative water sources - a well or reclaimed or reused water - are excluded from the irrigation restrictions.
