Military veterans were honored
Military veterans - all branches, all wars and conflicts, and stateside service - were honored Nov. 8 at the City's Military Veteran tribute at the recently renovated and renamed Veterans Memorial Plaza. Burleson Mayor Ken Shetter was the emcee. The Burleson Fire Department posted the colors, the Burleson ROTC presented the wreath, bagpiper Steve Pruitt played "Amazing Grace," Craig Murphy sang the "National Anthem" and "God Bless America," and the firing party and "Taps" were provided by the Burleson Police Department honor guard. All veterans were recognized during the Salute to the Armed Forces. This is the City's eighth tribute to military veterans. To see all of the pictures from the Nov. 8 tribute, go to the City Facebook page.

She was signing books Saturday
Nancy K. Arnold stopped in Burleson Nov. 8 to see her family and to autograph copies of her book, "Pioneer Pups." The 96-page book is written in rhyme and features fictional yet heroic canine characters that accompany humans on the wagon train trip from Iowa to Texas. Those humans are Arnold's ancestors. Benjamin Bransom, her great-great grandfather, brought his family by ox-drawn wagons to Johnson County in 1853. Arnold is the granddaughter of Mallie Bransom, daughter of Robert James Bransom, and niece of Doyle Bransom. If you missed the book signing but would like to read the book, the Burleson Public Library has copies available for checkout.
