It pays for kids to be good in Burleson!
It pays to be good! Thanks to 7-Eleven and its Operation Chill program, Burleson Police officers have coupons for a free small Slurpee for youngsters who are caught in the act of doing something good. If a child helps another person, deters crime, or participates in a positive activity in Burleson, he or she could get a coupon. David Wardlaw, the community resource officer for the Burleson Police Department, distributed coupons he received from 7-11's David Moorman to the department's patrol sergeants, who will pass them on to the officers. The police department has three shifts of officers, so they are looking out for good behavior 24 hours a day. It's kind of like a summertime Santa! More

Know what you have, and how to identify it via online program
The time to know how to identify valuables is before they are stolen. Burleson Police say to keep information about your valuables in a secure place and upload pictures, receipts, warranties and appraisals to LeadsOnline, an internet-based pawn program in which pawn shops nationwide upload their transactions. Citizens can create an account on LeadsOnline and enter information about their valuables, including a detailed description, any owner-applied number that would identify the item, the brand name/model name/serial or tag number and the date the item was purchased. Starve those mosquitoes!
Mosquitoes love to feed on your family, friends and pets. But there is a way to starve them. Drain. Drain is the fourth D of the 4-Ds (DEET, dress, dawn/dusk, and drain), in combatting mosquitoes. Check for standing water around your home and business. The most common breeding grounds are buckets and garbage cans, ornamental ponds, wading pools, tree holes, gutters, tarps, toys, flower pots and saucers, water dishes for your pet, wheel barrows, rain barrels, bird baths, boats and tires. Mosquito season in Burleson typically runs through October, with peak activity in August. Be on heightened alert. Use insect repellents that contain DEET or any other EPA approved insect repellent. Wear long sleeves and long pants when you are outside. And, dusk and dawn are the times of day you should try to stay indoors. The mosquito that causes the most problem in this area has a short flight range, so if you are having a mosquito problem, look in your immediate area. The breeding ground may be closer than you think. Read More
