Hot Sounds crowd loved the Tejas Brothers!
The Tejas Brothers did not disappoint June 27 as they closed out the City's 2014 Hot Sounds of Summer concert series in Old Town Burleson. From "Red, White and Blue" to the "Wiggle" song, they had the crowd on their feet and dancing to the honky tonk country (see the rest of the pictures!). The Tejas Brothers performed in the fifth and final concert of the 2014 series that included Buddy Whittington, Blaze of Glory, Le Freak, and Sgt. Peppers Lonely Bluegrass Band. The City could not have brought great bands to the free outdoor Friday night concerts without sponsorships from 95.9 FM The Ranch, 92.1 Hank FM, Fresco's, City Market, H-E-B, Victory Marketing Solutions, Alan Glazener and Associates, First Travel of Burleson, Honda of Burleson, Tin Rose Boutique, and State Farm, so be sure to thank those partners. Next up, the Independence Day Celebration Concert and Fireworks at Chisenhall Fields Sports Complex on the Fourth of July!

Zone Week 1 collection is July 7-11
Are you trimming the bushes and trees? Is it out with the old and in with the new on furniture and appliances? The City of Burleson offers special trash collections monthly, by zone. Place your large trash items at the curb the weekend before your scheduled week and crews will collect it during your Zone Week - Monday-Friday. Zone 1 is the week of the first Monday of the month. Zone 2 is the week of the second Monday. Zone 3 is the week of the third Monday, and Zone 4 is the week of the fourth Monday. Zone 1 week in July is July 7-11 because the first Monday in July is July 7. The crew will collect limbs, brush, lumber, wood, mattresses, furniture, carpet, regular kitchen appliances and appliances that have a sticker showing that the Freon has been removed by an appliance repair person, large toys, lawn mowers/weed eaters/edgers that have had the gasoline and oil drained, outdoor grills without the propane tank, and yard waste in paper lawn bags. See the Zone Week Map. If you still aren't sure which zone you are in, call the Municipal Service Center at 817-426-9830.

Starve those mosquitoes!
Mosquitoes love to feed on your family, friends and pets. But there is a way to starve them. Drain. Drain is the fourth D of the 4-Ds (DEET, dress, dawn/dusk, and drain), in combatting mosquitoes. Check for standing water around your home and business. The most common breeding grounds are buckets and garbage cans, ornamental ponds, wading pools, tree holes, gutters, tarps, toys, flower pots and saucers, water dishes for your pet, wheel barrows, rain barrels, bird baths, boats and tires. Mosquito season in Burleson typically runs through October, with peak activity in August. Be on heightened alert. Use insect repellents that contain DEET or any other EPA approved insect repellent. Wear long sleeves and long pants when you are outside. And, dusk and dawn are the times of day you should try to stay indoors. The mosquito that causes the most problem in this area has a short flight range, so if you are having a mosquito problem, look in your immediate area. The breeding ground may be closer than you think. Read More
