Bring your dancing shoes to Tejas
Brothers concert!
Have you heard? The Tejas Brothers will be performing the final concert of the City's 2014 Hot Sounds of Summer concert series tonight, June 27, in Old Town Burleson. If you're in Old Town you will be hearing the beat of some honky tonk country, starting at 7:30 p.m. at the corner of Ellison and Wilson streets (124 W. Ellison St.). The Tejas Brothers are a favorite in the Fort Worth Stockyards. According to their website, the Tejas Brothers "use the stage like a weapon, attacking your heart and poking at your funny bone." Please remember the ground rules for fun at a Hot Sounds of Summer concert. No glass bottles allowed, for safety reasons. You cannot carry alcohol out of an establishment in to the outdoor concert area. You are permitted to have alcohol but we ask that you be responsible and respectful to those around you. It is up to the parents whether they want to bring their children. Remember, you are sitting on the street with no shade (sidewalks must remain accessible). We do strongly recommend that you not bring pets to the concert. It is too loud, too hot, and too uncomfortable for our four-legged family members. Our police officers, Citizens On Patrol and fire department work the Hot Sounds of Summer concerts to ensure the safety of all who come out for 90-minutes of free fabulous Friday night music. See you there . . . with your dancing shoes on!
Let's go swimming on the Fourth of July

Swim at the BRiCk's outdoor pool on the Fourth of July! Hours are 1 p.m.-7:30 p.m. The outdoor pool will be open, but the BRiCk will be closed. Hidden Creek Golf Course is open for regular play until 5:30 p.m. All other City facilities - with the exception of the police department and fire stations - will be closed Friday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day. There will be no trash or curbside recycling collection. More

Metal Shop will rock Burleson's Fourth of July

Metal Shop is bringing the '80s hair band music back on Friday, July 4, when they headline the City's free Independence Day Celebration concert and fireworks show at Chisenhall Fields Sports Complex! If you love the City's free Hot Sounds of Summer concert series in Old Town, then you remember Metal Shop rocking Old Town in 2013. The 90-minute Fourth of July concert starts at 7:30 p.m. at Chisenhall. The playlist includes Gun's 'n Roses, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Whitesnake, Ozzy, Metallica, Poison, Tesla, Winger, Cinderella, AC/DC, and more, in a "true 80's rock arena style concert." Read More

Test your skills in Survivor Boot Camp
Is your child a survivor? The BRiCk can help you test their skills with the Youth Survival Tactics Boot Camp. This is a weeklong camp, July 14-18, 10 a.m.-12 p.m., for those 8-12 years old. If your child likes to work and play rough, they will like the unique challenges, including how to purify water, signal for help, search for edible food, set up shelter, learn army chants, and more. The fee ranges from $120 to $130 for the week. Call the BRiCk at 817-426-9104 for more information.
Don't miss the parade
on the Fourth of July

Don't leave Burleson on Independence Day! Friday, the Fourth of July, starts at 9 a.m. with the Burleson Lions Club's annual parade. The theme is "Honoring our Military Heroes, Past and Present." The parade route winds from Irene Street to Gregory, Johnson, Ellison, Main, Bufford, Warren, Gregory, and back to Irene. Categories include vehicles, businesses, individuals, sports, equestrian, motorcycles, church, military and more. Entry fees range from $20-$30. Register online or call Amber O'Rourke at 817-295-0461. Residential streets in the area of the parade (Lena, Irene, Dian, Gregory) will be closed starting at 6 a.m. on July 4. Johnson Avenue, between Harris Street and Gregory Street, will be closed at 8:30 a.m. then the rest of Johnson Avenue will be closed at 8:45 a.m. Be sure to arrive early to pick your spot!

What's coming to Burleson?

We are getting a lot of questions about new businesses coming in. We post the monthly building permit reports on the City website. This is the link to the most recent report, May 2014. This report tells you about residential permits and commercial activity. The monthly reports are generally posted by the 15th of the month.

Sgt Pepper brought the Beatles to Hot Sounds

Are you still humming those Beatles songs? Sgt. Peppers Lonely Bluegrass Band came to Old Town June 20 for the City's 2014 Hot Sounds of Summer concert series, and the fans were not disappointed. A great crowd heard "Here Comes The Sun," "Hey Jude," and some of the band's originals, including "Here's To You My Long Lost Friend" and "The Two of Us." The bluegrass band was the fourth in a series of five free concerts hosted by the City of Burleson. The Hot Sounds of Summer concert series is sponsored by 95.9 FM The Ranch, 92.1 Hank FM, Fresco's, City Market, H-E-B, Victory Marketing Solutions, Alan Glazener and Associates, First Travel of Burleson, Honda of Burleson, Tin Rose Boutique, and State Farm. Mosquito
Starve those pesky mosquitoes!
It's OK to starve them . . . in fact, the City strongly recommends it and will work with you to make it happen. We are talking about mosquitoes. They love to feed on your family, friends and pets. But there is a way to starve them. Drain. Drain is the fourth D of the 4-Ds (DEET, dress, dawn/dusk, and drain), in combatting mosquitoes. Check for standing water around your home and business. The most common breeding grounds are buckets and garbage cans, ornamental ponds, wading pools, tree holes, gutters, tarps, toys, flower pots and saucers, water dishes for your pet, wheel barrows, rain barrels, bird baths, boats and tires. Mosquito season in Burleson typically runs from May to October, with peak activity in August.  Residents should be on heightened alert during these months. Use insect repellents that contain DEET or any other EPA approved insect repellent. Wear long sleeves and long pants when you are outside. And, dusk and dawn are the times of day you should try to stay indoors. The mosquito that causes the most problem in this area has a short flight range, so if you are having a mosquito problem, look in your immediate area. The breeding ground may be closer than you think. Read More
