City's credit rating gets a boost;
$24.49 million in bonds sold
The City of Burleson earned a boost in its credit rating! The City was upgraded from an AA- rating to AA. AA+ is the next step and the City's financial advisor said he anticipates Burleson will attain an AA+ within the next few years. Boyd London, managing director with First Southwest said, "You are now among the top cities in the Metroplex in terms of rating, financial condition, and policies." The upgrade came in conjunction with the City selling/issuing $24.49 million in general obligation bonds and $11.05 million in certificates of obligation ($5.95 million for water and wastewater improvements and $5.11 million for the extension of Vantage Drive to FM 917). City streets are getting new asphalt
Some streets are getting new asphalt pavement! TexOp Construction, L.P., has been contracted to perform the milling part of the mill and overlay program in 2014. The grinding on the first streets - Miller Street, Miller Court and Commerce Street - on the list will be done June 9-19. City crews will install two inches of new asphalt pavement during the same week. If your street is on the list, please do not park or leave vehicles on the street during the timeframe that the work will be done. Please use your driveway or an unaffected side street closest to your home. The street maintenance will be ongoing throughout the summer. The mill and overlay will also be done in the Timber Ridge area, Murphy Road, Crestmoor Park Addition, Charlyne Drive, and Clinton Street. More

Starve those pesky mosquitoes!
It's OK to starve them . . . in fact, the City strongly recommends it and will work with you to make it happen. We are talking about mosquitoes. They love to feed on your family, friends and pets. But there is a way to starve them. Drain. Drain is the fourth D of the 4-Ds (DEET, dress, dawn/dusk, and drain), in combatting mosquitoes. Check for standing water around your home and business. The most common breeding grounds are buckets and garbage cans, ornamental ponds, wading pools, tree holes, gutters, tarps, toys, flower pots and saucers, water dishes for your pet, wheel barrows, rain barrels, bird baths, boats and tires. Mosquito season in Burleson typically runs from May to October, with peak activity in August.  Residents should be on heightened alert during these months. Use insect repellents that contain DEET or any other EPA approved insect repellent. Wear long sleeves and long pants when you are outside. And, dusk and dawn are the times of day you should try to stay indoors. The mosquito that causes the most problem in this area has a short flight range, so if you are having a mosquito problem, look in your immediate area. The breeding ground may be closer than you think. Read More
