Windy weather didn't stop the fishing or camping at City's Bailey Lake
More than a dozen families enjoyed the City Parks and Recreation Department's Far Out Family Fun Campout and Fishing Adventures April 26-27 at Bailey Lake. The winds were strong but the littlest fishers were still catching fish. The winning fish was 7-inches and was caught by a tiny blonde who took home her very own prize tackle box. The Boy Scouts and Master Naturalists guided families through nature trails and assisted with outdoor games and activities, including campfire stories and skits. The wind was too strong to roast hot dogs and marshmallows, but the parks staff improvised with a grill! To see the rest of the pictures, go to the Far Out Family Fun Campout and Fishing Adventures album on the City Facebook.

Thank you volunteers for beautifying Burleson!
Burleson is beautiful, but it is a little more beautiful today after more than 200 volunteers spanned out and picked up 3,600 pounds of litter and debris from retail corridors, drainage channels, streets, parks and other public areas. Following the cleanup, they met at the pavilion at Warren Park for a free pizza lunch and prize drawings. The Trash-Off was hosted by the City's Neighborhood Services department and Keep Burleson Beautiful. The next cleanup is Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014. Mark your calendars!  To see the rest of the pictures, go to the Burleson Trash-Off album on the City  Facebook page.

There was a lot of yapping at Yappy Hour
It was a record turnout for Yappy Hour at Lost Oak Winery on April 25. Jack the 5-year-old black Border Collie mix,  was adopted on site and Ophelia, an American Bulldog Mix was adopted Wednesday. The adoptable pets, and the pets brought to the event by their owners, were socializing up a storm with everyone. This was the fourth time that Lost Oak Winery and the Burleson Animal Shelter teamed up for Yappy Hour. If you had your eye on one of the Yappy Hour adoptable pets, or any of the other pets listed on the Burleson Animal Services page on Petango, stop by the shelter at 775 S.E. John Jones Dr. on Saturday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. or 11 a.m.-6 p.m, Tuesday-Friday. To see the rest of the pictures, go to the Yappy Hour at Lost Oak Winery album on the Burleson Animal Shelter's Facebook page.

Drought makes outdoor landscape watering restrictions permanent

The outdoor water restrictions that were most recently enacted in Burleson in June 2013 are now permanent due to a required change in the City's water conservation plan. Since the City of Burleson purchases its water from the City of Fort Worth, Burleson must approve a drought contingency plan that mirrors Fort Worth's plan. In April, Fort Worth made the maximum twice per week landscape restriction permanent, year-round. These permanent landscape watering restrictions are the same as the temporary ones enacted in June 2013. If your residential address ends in an even number (0, 2, 4, 6, 8) you can use an irrigation system to water your landscape on Wednesdays and Saturdays. If your residential address ends in an odd number (1, 3, 5, 7, 9) you can use an irrigation system to water on Thursdays and Sundays. All non-residential water locations (apartment complexes, businesses, industries, parks, medians, etc.) may water on Tuesdays and Fridays. Monday is a no-water day. Since 2009, Burleson has banned watering with irrigation or sprinkler systems, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., year round. Lawns and landscaping may be watered on any day with a handheld hose, drip irrigation, soaker hose or tree bubbler.
