Don't miss family fun of fishing and campout

The weather should be beautiful April 26! Sign up for the Far Out Family Fun Campout & Fishing Adventures April 26-27. The City is sponsoring the event that starts at 1 p.m. on Saturday and ends at 8 a.m. on Sunday at Bailey Lake. Children of all ages are welcome. Bring the whole family ($10 per family of five if you pre-register; $15 at the event). Each child must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Registering in advance is highly recommended. Advance registration is open until 8 p.m. on April 25 at the BRiCk, 550 N.W. Summercrest Blvd. Boy Scouts and Master Naturalists will guide you through nature trails, help you fish, and assist with outdoor games and activities, including campfire stories and skits. There will be hot dog roasting and marshmallow toasting. Bring snacks, a tent, fishing pole, bait, flashlight and bug spray. Leave pets and all open flamed lanterns and grills at home. Call the BRick at 817-426-9104.

Signal lights will be flashing at Gardens/Johnson intersection

Look for flashing signal lights at the intersection of Johnson Avenue and Gardens Boulevard starting Wednesday, April 23. The signal lights will be set to flashing for 90 days, in anticipation of the eventual removal of the signal. Studies indicate that approximately 21 seconds of green time can be added to the flow of traffic on Hwy. 174 once the signal retiming is completed to account for the removal of the Johnson/Gardens signal. But for now, traffic on Gardens Boulevard will have a flashing yellow light, and will be able to proceed with caution through the intersection. Traffic on Johnson will have a flashing red light and will stop before proceeding through the intersection. Re-striping and new signage will be put in place to allow the right turn from Johnson onto Gardens to proceed after yielding to Gardens traffic.

The hunt was on for Easter eggs in the BRiCk pool

Approximately 160 children between birth and 11 years old hunted for plastic Easter eggs at Aqua Egg Hunt April 12. The fun took place at the BRiCk (Burleson Recreation Center). Hunters were divided in to four age groups with the little ones searching in the play structure area and the older ones jumping in with their nets and gathering eggs from the lap lanes. To see more pictures from the Aqua Egg Hunt, go to the Aqua Egg Hunt album on the City Facebook page.

Get your free tree seedlings April 25
Norwood Elementary is bringing approximately 300 students to the City's April 25 Arbor Day ceremony at Warren Park. The ceremony starts at 10 a.m. at 301 S.W. Johnson Ave., across from the library. Staff will distribute 450 free tree seedlings on a first-come first served basis. The seedlings include bur oak, live oak, shumard oak and bald cypress.
Man and his dog get long distance reunion thanks to microchip
A California truck driver was reunited with his Pit Bull April 14 thanks to the family that took care of her, the police officer who found her, and the animal shelter staff that found the microchip. Gracie, a brindle and white Pit Bull, was overjoyed to see her "dad," Charles Boettcher, who drove from California to Burleson to pick her up. Charles and Gracie were separated in November 2013 when she was stolen at a truck stop in south Fort Worth. Amber Pippin and her 3-year-old son, who found Gracie after she got loose in Burleson, were given a chance to say goodbye to the Pit Bull who had become their pet. Read More

Joey hosted an Easter Egg Hunt at the farm
Joey was one happy donkey April 12 when his Easter Egg Hunt at Russell Farm went off without a hitch. Approximately 200 children, all under the age of four, visited the historic City-owned farm on CR 714 for the Easter Egg Hunt. Families toured the grounds and stopped to give Joey, who was wearing bunny ears, a pat on the nose. This is Russell Farm's first Easter Egg Hunt. The fun was rained out in 2013. To see more pictures from Russell Farm, go to the Russell Farm Easter Egg Hunt album on the City Facebook page.
Dispose of unwanted drugs safely
The City, in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration, will host a Drug Take Back Event on April 26 at the old City service center, 133 N. Main St. The event is 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Residents may drop off unused, expired or unwanted medications, in both pill and liquid form, for safe disposal. This includes over-the-counter as well as prescription drugs. For more information about Burleson's event, call Sgt. Bob Sherman at 817-426-9951.
The Easter Bunny stopped by Bunny Daze!
The weather was great and Bartlett Park was packed April 12 for Bunny Daze and the Easter Egg Hunt. Approximately 800 children and families browsed through the vendor booths, played games, had pictures taken with the Easter Bunny and hunted for candy and prize plastic eggs. For more pictures go to the Bunny Daze and Easter Egg Hunt album on the City Facebook page.
Cinco has moved to Bartlett Park

Cinco de Mayo has moved, but the fun won't change! The City and La Buena Vida de Burleson will host the annual festival Friday, May 2, 6 p.m.-11 p.m. at Bartlett Park, 550 N.W. Summercrest Blvd. There will be entertainment, carnival rides and great food. For more information about the May 2 event, call Ike Vera at 817-426-9291.
