Donate dog food or a book for Pot of Gold Scavenger Hunt at Russell Farm
A new book or dog food/supplies is the only admission price for the Saturday, March 22, St. Patrick's Day Pot of Gold Scavenger Hunt at the City's Russell Farm. Miranda Maceyra, a Centennial High School student, is hosting a Girl Scout community service project at the historic farm between 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. The fun is geared toward children, nine-16 years old. Staff from the library, the animal shelter, environmental services and Teen Court will be at the event to spread the word about what they have to offer the community and what a resident could offer if they choose to volunteer for the City. Adoptable pets will make an appearance too in hopes of on-site adoptions. The event may also benefit the Meals-On-Wheels of Johnson and Ellis counties' Ani-Meals program. This program provides food for the pets of Meals-On-Wheels clients. Volunteers will provide tours of the historical farm. The 30-acre farm was donated to the City by Charlie and Louise Boren in 2011. The farm is part of the City's parks and recreation department and is open to the community. Read More

Banks help newcomers sign up for free Burleson Public Library cards
You can sign up for a library card at the bank! Burleson Public Library cards are now being issued through Community Bank and First National Bank as part of a special pilot program for those who are new to the community. Library cards are free to those who live in or own property within the city limits of Burleson. Currently, to apply for a library card, you fill out an application then bring your completed application and a photo ID to the library. If the address on your license or ID is not correct because you haven't updated it yet, you have to show another form of proof of address - printed personal check, utility bill, first class mail, vehicle insurance, vehicle registration, lease agreement or pay stub. Now that the library has formed a partnership with the banks, the form is filled out at the bank, and the bank sends the form to the library. The pilot program will run for the next several months to evaluate its effectiveness. If it is successful, other banks in the community will be invited to participate. Read More

Keep sidewalks clear for walkers
Are you a jogger, walker, or dog walker? Do you use sidewalks to get around town? Sidewalk obstructions come in many shapes and sizes - piles of dirt, a trash bag, or a vehicle parked over the sidewalk are a few examples. Blocking a sidewalk is a violation of the City of Burleson's code of ordinances. Sidewalk obstructions can cause significant risks to pedestrians and adversely impact the flow of vehicle traffic. Connect your water at your new home
Congratulations on making Burleson your home! If you are unsure of how to set up your utility account with the City, fill out a water service application, available on the City website's Forms page. You'll have to stop by Burleson City Hall with the application, a driver's license or state-issued ID, and a minimum deposit of $135 or a letter of credit that states that you had no late payments with a water, electric or gas utility in the last 12 months of service with them. Staff must verify that your name matches the name on the lease agreement or deed. If you are not able to come by in person you can fax or email a completed and notarized water service application with a copy of your driver's license. You must call to verify all paperwork was received and to set up a time for service to be connected. The City requires one working days' notice to have the water service connected. If you pay on time for 12 months in a row, your deposit is automatically refunded! If you have any questions, call Utility Customer Service at 817-426-9601.
