Donate dog food or a book for Pot of Gold Scavenger Hunt at Russell Farm
A new book or dog food/supplies is the only admission price for the Saturday, March 22, St. Patrick's Day Pot of Gold Scavenger Hunt at the City's Russell Farm. Miranda Maceyra, a 16-year-old Centennial High School student, is hosting a Girl Scout community service project at the historic farm between 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. The fun is geared toward children, nine-16 years old. Staff from the library, the animal shelter, environmental services and Teen Court will be at the event to spread the word about what they have to offer the community and what a resident could offer if they choose to volunteer for the City. Adoptable pets will make an appearance too in hopes of on-site adoptions. The event may also benefit the Meals-On-Wheels of Johnson and Ellis counties' Ani-Meals program. This program provides food for the pets of Meals-On-Wheels clients. Volunteers will provide tours of the historical farm. The 30-acre farm was donated to the City by Charlie and Louise Boren in 2011. The farm is part of the City's parks and recreation department and is open to the community. Read More

Do you want 'quiet time' for messages?
Do you work second or third shift? When you opt in to the City's Everbridge mass notification system, you can set a "quiet time" for messages so that you are not disturbed at night, or if you work nights, so you are not contacted during the day. Everbridge will primarily be used for weather-related emergencies (severe thunderstorm warnings and tornado warnings). Tornado warnings are sent to everyone in the system, regardless of the time, so the "quiet time" setting does not apply when it is a tornado warning. Go to the Everbridge link on the City website and click on "sign up" at the bottom of the page. Everbridge will ask for a username and password, your first and last name, a security question, and a registration email. Once you have signed up, you create your profile. If you have any questions about the new system or need assistance, please call Fire Station #1 at 817-426-9170.
