Renfro St., near the corner of Renfro Street and I-35W. The City will pay tribute to the WASP, United States Merchant Marine and Rosie the Riveter. Forty women wore the WAFS uniform before it was merged into the Women Air Force Service Pilots (WASP). The Merchant Marine is a fleet of U.S. civilian-owned merchant vessels that transport cargo and passengers during peacetime. In time of war, the Merchant Marine can be called upon to deliver troops and supplies for the military. They have no combat role.Rosie the Riveter was the face of an ad campaign during World War II to encourage women to do their patriotic duty and enter the workforce to fill the gaps left by men who enlisted. The Rosie the Riveter campaign was aimed at recruiting women to work in the munitions industry. Read More |

Police issue alert for phone scams
The Burleson Police Department said suspects used a device that produced a Caller ID from the, "Attorney General's Office" and, "817-426-9910," the main number to the police department. This scam is similar to others where someone calls stating they are with a law enforcement or government agency (i.e., Attorney General, DEA, county jail, etc.) and demand money for a fictitious warrant or fine that must be paid immediately or else the person will go to jail. The callers sometime state that local law enforcement officers are in the neighborhood or nearby to arrest them if the warrants/ fines do not get paid immediately. Ask for the caller's full name and direct phone number; caller's supervisor's name and direct phone number; and the agency's name and physical address. If the caller refuses or hesitates to provide this, the call is likely fraudulent. Read More |
