It was a dog's night at winery's Yappy Hour
There were a lot of dogs, big and small, at the July 12 Yappy Hour at Lost Oak Winery. Two Burleson Animal Shelter dogs were adopted during the on-site adoptions and other adoptable pets got a lot of love and attention. This is the third time that the Burleson Animal Shelter and Lost Oak Winery have teamed up for Yappy Hour. Former American Idol contestant, Nick McCord, provided the entertainment. Guests brought their own dogs to enjoy the outdoors and socialize with people and other dogs. For more pictures of Yappy Hour, go to the Yappy Hour at Lost Oak Winery photo album on the City of Burleson, Texas Facebook page. |

Remember, if you like it, lock it!
"If you like it, lock it." That's the Burleson Police Department's catchy slogan for getting you to start thinking about how not to be a victim. What's on your prevention checklist? Park in a high traveled area. Lock your vehicle. Take your valuables with you. And remove from plain sight the things you can't carry with you. Always assume a thief is watching you and outsmart them. A thief looks for an easy, quick mark, and that mark is an unlocked vehicle and plenty of valuables within easy reach to choose from. If you like it, lock, it. |
Celebrate Parks and Recreation Month!
Dawn Beaver and her family celebrated Mother's Day at Bailey Lake on Hidden Creek Parkway. She and her kids - Reagan, Ryan and Natalie - had a picnic, fished and made memories. The City's parks and recreation department wants you to help them celebrate with pictures. Take a picture of your family, friends, neighbors, or co-workers (make sure you have their permission to use their picture) at any of the City's more than 18 parks, at the BRiCk (Burleson Recreation Center) or just doing something active. Mosquito control takes team effort!
City staff has been trapping and testing for mosquitoes since the beginning of May, which is also the month that city council approved an amendment to the 2012-2013 fiscal year budget. That amendment covers the cost of hiring a mosquito control technician and contracting with a private company to ground spray for mosquitoes in areas where a mosquito pool (a pool is defined as standing water) confirms West Nile virus or where a human case of West Nile virus is confirmed. The City is following the guidelines of the CDC. The City also emphasizes the 4 D's: DEET, Dress, Dusk/Dawn and Drain. All mosquitoes begin their lives in standing water so prime breeding sites include discarded tires left outdoors, poorly maintained bird baths, clogged rain gutters, unused swimming pools and plastic wading pools, pet dishes, or any other container capable of holding water for more than a few days. The City is also giving away mosquito larvicide or "dunks" to residents who live inside the city limits of Burleson and who would like to begin a personal mosquito-control program. |
