Quaker City Night Hawks close out Hot Sounds tonight
Get ready to "shake your hips" to the Quaker City Night Hawks as they wrap up the City's Hot Sounds of Summer concert series in Old Town Friday, June 28. The band's brand of hard rock n' roll is bred from Texas boogie, Memphis soul and heavy blues. Their music is southern rock right out of '75. The free 90-minute concert kicks off at 7:30 p.m. at the corner of Wilson and Ellison streets (124 W. Ellison St.). The sidewalks in Old Town must be kept clear during the concert. Bring your hand fans and plenty of water to stay cool. Come early and get some great food at the restaurants in Old Town. Picnics are allowed at Hot Sounds but glass bottles are discouraged, for safety reasons. Check out the band's website. |

Celebrate Parks and Recreation Month!
July is Parks and Recreation Month! The City's parks and recreation department wants you to help them celebrate with pictures. Take a picture of your family, friends, neighbors, or co-workers (make sure you have their permission to use their picture) at any of the City's more than 18 parks, at the BRiCk (Burleson Recreation Center) or just doing something active. Email those pictures to Ashley Newhart along with your name, phone number, and email address. Please identify where the picture was taken in Burleson. The winning pictures may be used in future parks and recreation or City publications. For more information, call 817-426-9104. |
Dogs and fireworks don't mix
More dogs run away on the Fourth of July than on any other day of the year. The sounds of fireworks - the artificial squeal followed by the giant burst of explosives and subsequent whimper - drive dogs nuts! For many, it triggers their innate flight instinct so many dogs are reported lost over the patriotic holiday. Before July 4th arrives, stop by the Burleson Animal Shelter and get your pet microchipped. The fee is $15, regardless of where you live. You have to provide proof of rabies vaccination to get the microchip. Read More |
Janke is fifth Shop Wilshire winner
Are you collecting receipts from Hwy. 174 businesses located between the I-35W/Hwy. 174 split and Elk Drive? The winner of the fifth prize drawing for the Shop on Wilshire Loyalty program is Matthew Janke. He won a prize pack containing 20 car washes at Jett Express Car Wash. Janke's name was drawn at the June 17 Burleson City Council meeting. The Texas Department of Transportation is making median improvements to Hwy. 174 between I-35W and Elk Drive. During the construction, the City encourages everyone to keep visiting your favorite Wilshire businesses in the improvement area as part of the City's Shop on Wilshire Loyalty program. Collect five separate receipts from businesses in the improvement area, then deliver or mail the receipts to city hall prior to the third Monday of the month. Make sure your name and your phone number are included with the receipts. Receipts for the July 15 drawing must be dated June 1-30. The winner's name is drawn at the second city council meeting each month. Local Wilshire businesses donate the prizes. Go to the Shop on Wilshire Loyalty page for the details. |
