Look for signal work and seal coating this month on Hwy. 174 median project
The Hwy. 174 median and overlay project in Burleson continues to be on schedule according to the Texas Department of Transportation. For the next few weeks, the contractor will be conducting traffic signal work which will require some weekday lane closures. There will also be some night time lane closures beginning at the end of the month in order to seal coat the roadway surface. In response to a question from a resident who was concerned about his tires, TxDOT said that after the milling of the top layer of the roadway, the contractor placed some asphalt material, for safety reasons, to transition between the City streets and Hwy. 174. The upcoming seal coat on Hwy. 174 will also help with the transition and maintenance of the roadway until the overlay is placed at the end of the project. TxDOT's median improvement project on State Hwy. 174/Wilshire Boulevard in Burleson got underway in February 2013. The project is expected to be complete by April 2014. Improvements include replacement of the center turn lane with a raised curb center median with turn lanes, an overlay of the existing pavement, and landscaping. Read More |
Don't give mosquitoes a place to breed
Start now to prevent your home and yard from becoming a mosquito breeding site by eliminating standing water. Adult flying mosquitoes frequently rest in grass, shrubbery or other foliage but do not develop there. Mosquitoes need standing water to breed. Keep swimming pool water treated and circulating, stock ornamental ponds with fish that eat mosquitoes, and repair any leaking plumbing and outside faucets. To find out other ways to make your property unattractive to mosquitoes, check out the news release. Read More |

Don't obstruct neighborhood sidewalks
Are you a jogger, walker, or dog walker? Do you use sidewalks to get around town? Sidewalk obstructions come in many shapes and sizes - piles of dirt, a trash bag, or a vehicle parked over the sidewalk are a few examples. Blocking a sidewalk is a violation of the City of Burleson's code of ordinances. Sidewalk obstructions can cause significant risks to pedestrians and adversely impact the flow of vehicle traffic. Yard waste goes into storm drains untreated and can cause flooding
In Burleson, blowing or sweeping yard waste into streets, sidewalks, driveways or storm drains is illegal. Why? Because when it rains, yard waste left in streets, on sidewalks, or in driveways will wash into nearby storm drains. Once in the storm drain system, the yard waste can enter waterways without being treated or cleaned. If too many grass clippings and tree leaves are washed or dumped down a storm drain, the storm drain may become clogged. The next time it rains, or the sprinklers run, the water that would normally flow down the storm drain will be blocked by the yard waste. This can cause flooding in the neighborhood. To report a violation regarding improper disposal of yard waste, call Code Compliance at 817-426-9830. Read More |
