Work on Hwy. 174 median improvement project expected to start Monday
Expect to see work starting on the Hwy. 174 median improvement project as early as Monday, weather permitting. The state's contractor is expected to start Phase 1 of the asphalt milling Feb. 18. You won't see any traffic signal work until the first full week of March when the contractor starts at Elk Drive and moves north. The median construction will create a 4-inch raised concrete median in place of the current center turn lane. All existing signalized intersections will remain, with the exception of Lorna Street. That signal will be removed and a median will prevent left turns, but Lorna will be maintained up to Hwy. 174, allowing right turns. A new signalized intersection will be created midway between Hidden Creek Parkway and Elk Drive. All other median openings will be a hooded left, which allow left turns in but not left turns out. Those locations include between Newton Street and Exchange Street, between Exchange Street and Gardens Boulevard, and into the west end of the Walmart parking lot, between the intersection with Hidden Creek Parkway and the new intersection between Hidden Creek Parkway and Elk Drive. For more information and to see what the project will look like, go to the Construction Projects Update page on the City website. |
