Survey says you like what the City does
Survey says . . . you like what we are doing! In October 2012, a National Citizen Survey tailored to the City of Burleson by the National Research Center, Inc., was sent randomly to 1,200 Burleson households. The survey included more than a dozen categories. According to Burleson's 2012 National Citizen Survey, which was presented to city council Feb. 4, out of 23 key service areas respondents rated Burleson above the benchmark in 18 areas. The City is similar to the benchmark in four areas and below the benchmark in one service category. The survey asked how respondents would rate Burleson as a place to live. Ninety-five percent ranked Burleson as excellent or good. Respondents gave Burleson above national benchmark level grades for the overall quality of businesses and service establishments, shopping opportunities, and employment opportunities. And, respondents like the overall quality of new development and the overall appearance of Burleson. To see the news release, presentation to council, video of the presentation to council, the final report and all supporting documents, go to the 2012 National Citizen Survey page on the city website. |

Bastible earns top supervisor honors
Sgt. Craig Bastible earned the respect of his peers in 2007 with Rookie of the Year honors and in 2009 with Officer of the Year accolades. At the Burleson Police Department's annual awards banquet in January, he was awarded Supervisor of the Year for 2012. Bastible is the sixth sergeant to earn the award since its inception in 2007. The 27-year-old Burleson native was described in the nomination letter as "a person who jumps in with both feet to make sure that goals are accomplished within the department. He tries to do things the right way the first time and expects the same for his shift. He leads by example, which sets the tone for his shift. He is always willing to do what it takes to get the job done and never hesitates to take on a task." Read More |
Make curbside recycling a habit!
Make recycling a habit! It's easy if you are a Burleson resident. The City of Burleson contracts with Community Waste Disposal for curbside recycling. Recycling is collected once a week. Fill your City-approved green bin with your recyclables and place the bin at the curb by 7 a.m. on your recycling day. One bin is provided for each residence. Additional bins may be purchased for $10 each. Lids are also available at no extra charge. To order an additional bin, call the Municipal Service Center at 817-426-9830 or stop by 725 SE John Jones Dr., Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. If you miss your curbside recycling day and can't wait until the next week, residents can drop off recyclables at the City's Recycle Center at 620 Memorial Plaza. The center is open 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. You must show proof of residence to use the center. For more about recycling, go to the Recycling page on the City website. |

Do you need to set up water service?
Are you a new resident who needs to establish water service with the City? Stop by Burleson City Hall, 141 W. Renfro St., with a water service application, driver's license or state identification card, and a minimum deposit of $135 or a letter of credit that states that you had no late payments with a water, electric or gas utility in the last 12 months of service with them. City staff also must be able to verify that the person seeking to open an account with the City matches the name on the lease agreement or deed. If you are not able to come to city hall in person, you can fax or email a completed water service application with a notarized copy of your driver's license. You are responsible for calling to verify that all paperwork was received and set up a time for your service to be connected. You have to be inside your home at the time the water service is connected to ensure that no faucets have been left on to eliminate any water damage. For more information, go to the Utility Customer Service New Resident Information page on the City website, or call 817-426-9601. |

Do you want to make a difference and remain anonymous in fighting crime?
Do you have information that could lead to the arrest and indictment of a felony offender? Do you want to remain anonymous? Then call the Johnson County Crime Stoppers program at 817-295-LEAD (5323). Crime Stoppers offers anonymity and up to $1,000 cash rewards to people who offer information leading to the arrest and indictment of felony offenders. The Crime Stoppers number does not use Caller ID and is answered 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Each caller is issued a code number to ensure anonymity. If the information given by the caller leads to the arrest and indictment, the law enforcement agency that is handling that case forwards the information to the Crime Stopper board of directors for the cash reward. Crime Stoppers is a non-profit organization consisting of a board of concerned citizens who are united with representatives of law enforcement agencies in Johnson County, Burleson, Alvarado, Cleburne, Godley, Grandview, Joshua, Keene, Rio Vista and Venus. The board establishes the policy, the amount and method of the reward system, and how to raise funds. |

Court allows 20 business days to pay citations; hours extended in February
If you have received a citation from the Burleson Municipal Court, what is the deadline to pay it? You have 20 business days from the date of the offense. You can take care of it by mail or in person. A telephone call does not constitute an appearance. State law will only allow a licensed attorney to act on the behalf of someone else. You may retain an attorney but an attorney is not required since municipal citations are a fine-only offense. Payment may be made by cash, cashier's check, money orders, MasterCard or Visa. The Burleson Municipal Court is extending its hours every Friday in February to 8 a.m.-7 p.m. The court is located inside the Burleson subcourthouse at 247 Elk Dr., Room 114. Call 817-426-9220 for more information. |
