And, White, along with one of her court clerks, earned their certifications through the Texas Municipal Court Clerks Certification program. White achieved Level II and Anna Paniagua earned Level 1 certification. White is now striving for Level III. White is currently a director at large, serving her second two-year term, for the TCCA. She is also the chair of the bylaw committee and she is the TCCA historian. More |
Give the gift of a sober ride this holiday
Give the gift of a sober ride. That's the message that the Texas Department of Transportation and law enforcement agencies statewide are stressing this holiday season. The campaign is called Holiday P.A.S.S. (Person Appointed to Stay Sober). It encourages Texans to give the gift of a sober ride and makes it easier for sober drivers to enjoy the festivities without drinking alcohol. Holiday drinking and driving poses a serious threat for all holiday travelers on the road. During last year's holiday season (Dec. 1, 2011-Jan. 1, 2012) in Burleson, there were two vehicle crashes involving intoxication with no reported injuries, one crash involving a reported injury, and one crash involving two fatalities. If a driver suspected of driving while intoxicated in Burleson refuses to submit to an intoxilyzer test, that driver is transported to the hospital to have blood drawn. Read More |

Stage 1 water restrictions may return
Water supplies are dropping about 1 percent every two weeks in the Tarrant Regional Water District (TRWD), which supplies water to an 11-county area, including Tarrant County. Burleson buys its water from the City of Fort Worth. Fort Worth is supplied by the TRWD. At that rate, the TRWD will reach the Stage 1 trigger of the water district's drought plan by mid-January. The plan is designed to slow the drop in lake levels - and does so primarily by limiting outdoor watering with sprinklers and automatic irrigation systems to no more than two days per week. The best way to save water in the winter is to turn your irrigation system off and limit your watering to once every other week - if it hasn't rained. The TRWD has posted a video on YouTube. For the Save Tarrant Water website, click here. |

Protect pets in winter weather, holidays
It is Texas and weather is always unpredictable. While you are winterizing your house, your car, and yourself, the staff at the Burleson Animal Shelter says don't forget about your pets. If your pet's coat gets wet, the fur loses some of its insulation. It doesn't take long for snow or ice to freeze on the pads of your dog or cat's feet. During the holidays, keep your pets away from poinsettias and other potentially toxic plants, chocolate, holly berries, leaves, and tinsel. Call your veterinarian immediately if you think your pet has eaten something dangerous. Read the news release for more. |
Hazardous Mitigation Action Plan is available for review on website
The North Central Texas Council of Governments is currently working on a Johnson County Hazardous Mitigation Action Plan. The City of Burleson will be included in this plan. A link to a draft document about which the public can make comments is on the Draft Hazardous Mitigation Action Plan page on the City website. |
It's easy to recycle your Christmas tree
If you live inside the city limits of Burleson, it's easy to recycle your Christmas tree when it begins dropping needles. The City's compost/mulch center is open 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. The center will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 1, but will be open today and Saturday, Dec. 28-29. The compost/mulch center is located at 620 Memorial Plaza, behind Fire Station #2. You have to be a resident of the city of Burleson to use the City compost/mulch/recycling center. If you don't want to recycle your holiday tree, set it at the curb along with your regular trash. There will be no trash or curbside recycling collection Jan. 1. Dried-out trees should not be left in the home or garage, or placed outside against the home. |
Johnson and Tarrant County enact
90-day bans on outdoor burning
The Tarrant County Commissioners and the Johnson County Commissioners have approved bans on outdoor burning. Tarrant County's ban was enacted Dec. 4 and is good for 90 days.Johnson County's ban was enacted Dec. 10 and will be place until March 9. The burn bans in Tarrant and Johnson counties only apply to the unincorporated areas of the counties. The City of Burleson fire code prohibits outdoor burning in the city limits at any time of the year. However, a City homeowner can have a recreational fire as long as it is one of the burn-type pits (with a grate cover that can be put over it) that can be purchased at Walmart, Home Depot, Lowes, etc. |
