Did you get in the Christmas spirit at three-day celebration at Russell Farm?
Do you have a picture with Joey, the Rein Donkey? Chances are if you headed out to Russell Farm, the City's 30-acreJoey the Rein Donkey and boy  historic farm, Dec. 13-15, you came away with pictures of Joey and his antlers, his buddies the miniature donkeys, and even the alpacas! The festivities were free. Add a seat at the table
Do you have a neighbor, co-worker, or friend who has no plans for the holiday? Please give thanks for your blessings then add another place at the table, a gift under the tree, and include them in your celebration. Make this holiday memorable!
Give the gift of a sober ride this holiday

Give the gift of a sober ride. That's the message that the Texas Department of Transportation and law enforcement agencies statewide are stressing this holiday season. The campaign is called Holiday P.A.S.S. (Person Appointed to Stay Sober). It encourages Texans to give the gift of a sober ride and make it easier for sober drivers to enjoy the festivities without drinking alcohol. Holiday drinking and driving poses a serious threat for all holiday travelers on the road. During last year's holiday season (Dec. 1, 2011-Jan. 1, 2012) in Burleson, there were two vehicle crashes involving intoxication with no reported injuries, one crash involving a reported injury, and one crash involving two fatalities. If a driver suspected of driving while intoxicated in Burleson refuses to submit to an intoxilyzer test, that driver will be headed to the hospital to have blood drawn. Read More

Protect pets in winter weather, holidays

Temperatures in the teens in Texas may be gone for now, but it is Texas and weather is always unpredictable. While you are winterizing your house, your car, and yourself, the staff at the Burleson Animal Shelter says don't forget about your pets. If your pet's coat gets wet, the fur loses some of its insulation. It doesn't take long for snow or ice to freeze on the pads of your dog or cat's feet. During the holidays, keep your pets away from poinsettias and other potentially toxic plants, chocolate, holly berries, leaves, and tinsel. Call your veterinarian immediately if you think your pet has eaten something dangerous. Read the news release for more.

It's easy to recycle your Christmas tree

If you live inside the city limits of Burleson, it's easy to recycle your Christmas tree when it begins dropping needles. The City's compost/mulch/recycling center is open 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. The center will be closed Tuesday, Dec. 25, and Tuesday, Jan. 1, but will be open Friday and Saturday, Dec. 28-29. The center is located at 620 Memorial Plaza, behind Fire Station #2. You have to be a resident of the city of Burleson to use the City's center. If you don't want to recycle your holiday tree, set it at the curb along with your regular trash. There will be no trash or curbside recycling collection Dec. 25 or Jan. 1. Dried-out trees should not be left in the home or garage, or placed outside against the home.
