Get your picture taken with Joey the "Rein-Donkey" during the Christmas at Russell Farm festivities. The City's 30-acre historic farm on the south side of Burleson is the site for fun Dec. 14-15. The hours today, Dec. 14, are 5 p.m.-9 p.m. Saturday's hours are noon-9 p.m. The festivities are free. The fun includes pictures (bring your own camera) with a donkey wearing antlers; checking out the Christmas trees decorated by community clubs and organizations; hay rides; handmade crafts for sale; tours of the historic Russell-Boren house as well as the Russell Farm Art Center gallery; and hot chocolate, cookies and coffee. Johnson and Tarrant County enacted 90-day bans on outdoor burning
The Tarrant County Commissioners and the Johnson County Commissioners have approved bans on outdoor burning. Tarrant County's ban was enacted Dec. 4 and is good for 90 days.Johnson County's ban was enacted Dec. 10 and will be place until March 9. The burn bans in Tarrant and Johnson counties only apply to the unincorporated areas of the counties. The City of Burleson fire code prohibits outdoor burning in the city limits at any time of the year. However, a City homeowner can have a recreational fire as long as it is one of the burn-type pits (with a grate cover that can be put over it) that can be purchased at Walmart, Home Depot, Lowes, etc. |
Get your child's car seat checked out!
If your child is under the age of 2, should that child be in a front-facing or rear-facing child safety seat? At what age may your child ride in the front seat? How long does your child need to stay in a car seat or booster seat? Burleson firefighters were recently certified as child passenger safety technicians. Parents may call Fire Station #1 at 817-426-9176 and set up an appointment to have a child's car seat checked out. |
Heart for the Kids collect more than 65 toys at police/fire softball benefit
Volunteers with Heart for the Kids collected between 65 and 70 toys, including two bicycles, at the Red Vs. Blue benefit for Heart for the Kids on Dec. 8. The softball game ended with a 13-13 tie. This is the 12th year that the Burleson Professional Fire Fighters Association Local #4025 and Burleson Police Officers Association have hosted the event. The nonprofit Heart for the Kids assists children who live in the city of Burleson and those who attend Burleson schools. Heart for the Kids will distribute the donated items to families the week of Dec. 16. Burial of time capsule Dec. 21 marks grand finale of City's Centennial year
The City and the Burleson Heritage Foundation will mark the end of the City's Centennial year by burying a time capsule at Centennial Park on Friday, Dec. 21. The ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. The park is located at 1100 Scarlet Sage Pkwy. Burleson was officially incorporated as a town on May 21, 1912. When Burleson was incorporated, the boundary was approximately .65 square miles (roughly 415 acres). Today, the population is estimated at 38,130 within a boundary of 26.4 miles. Read More |
Teens flocked to the Burleson Public Library's Micro A-KonŽ convention The Burleson Public Library was bustling Dec. 8 with the Micro A-Kon convention. There were panel discussions with artists and voice actors, autograph sessions , free sketches from the artists, a cosplay contest, prize raffle, live board and card game demonstrations, and a video game room. Special guests included artists Kristen McGuire and Katrina McMillan, voice actress/director Caitlin Glass, voice actress Jad B. Saxton, and voice actress Whitney Rodgers. Fire marshal leads Texas chapter of International Arson Investigators
Stacy Singleton, the City's fire marshal, started his two-year term as president of the Texas chapter of the International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI) in March of 2012. The Texas chapter is one of the largest chapters of the IAAI. Prior to his presidency, Singleton was vice president of the Texas chapter for two years. He also served two three-year terms on the Texas board of directors prior to being elected as vice president. Singleton is one of more than half a dozen City employees currently elected to top leadership positions in regional, state or national associations. Read More |

If you are traveling in Texas or just doing your daily driving, then the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has some good information for you. The page dedicated to the driver includes information about highway conditions, travel information centers, safety rest areas, ferry information, toll road systems, public transportation, child passenger safety laws, school bus safety, DWI laws, highway driving, driving with large trucks, railroad crossings, safety rest area map, work zones, and laws concerning cell phones, Click it or Ticket, collisions, speed limits and road signs. Most facilities closed Dec. 24-25, Jan. 1; no trash/recycling Dec. 25, Jan. 1
City facilities will be closed Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 24-25, and Tuesday, Jan. 1, in observance of Christmas and New Year's Day. There will be no trash or curbside recycling collection on Tuesday, Dec. 25, and Tuesday, Jan. 1.
The BRiCk will be open Dec. 31, but the hours are shortened to 5 a.m.-5 p.m. The library will also be closed to the public on Monday, Dec. 31, for a staff in service day. It will reopen Jan. 2. The Burleson Animal Shelter will be open Saturday, Dec. 22. The Senior Activity Center will be closed Dec. 22. For the hours of operation for each facility, click here. |
