Break in water transmission main did not pose a threat to Burleson public
Approximately 2,400 pounds of lime and 324,000 gallons of chlorinated drinking water entered the City's storm sewer system Friday, Oct. 5, at 8:45 a.m. when a City contractor accidentally struck a 12-inch water transmission main while mixing lime for subgrade stabilization in Renfro Street. The work is part of the left turn lane project at Northwest Renfro Street and Brushy Mound Road in north Burleson. City staff contacted the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to report the unauthorized discharge. The discharge did not, at any time, pose a threat to the public. No residents were without water during this time. The water main pressure was sufficient to prevent the need for a boil water notice. Up to 130 fish, four frogs and 14 crawfish were found dead in the affected creek. Read More |

'Have Two Ways Out' of a home fire is theme for 2012 Fire Prevention Week
If you woke up to a fire in your home, how much time would it take to get to safety? According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), one-third of Americans thought they would have at least six minutes before a fire in their home would become life threatening. That's not always the case. That's why the Burleson Fire Marshal's office and Burleson Fire Department are teaming up with NFPA during Fire Prevention Week, Oct. 7-13, 2012, to urge residents to "Have Two Ways Out!" This year's theme focuses on the importance of fire escape planning and practice. Children at Norwood Elementary (pictured) learned how to crawl low to get out of a smoky Fire Safety House. Read More
