July 2015 - In this Issue of The Scenic:

Remote cameras funded by the Foundation are capturing images of wildlife for the Parkway.
Show your love for the Parkway!

Our warm weather activities include lots of projects

We love summer on the Parkway. There are so many trails to hike, overlooks to take in, historic sites to learn from, and adventures to experience. As you're marking off your list of must-visit spots on the Parkway, we're working on our must-do list to make the route an even better place for you and the wildlife that call the park home.

  • On the nature front, we're installing new cameras in remote locales to better understand the habits and needs of bears, bobcats, deer, and the other creatures that roam the landscape.
  • To preserve the historic spots you love to visit, we're working with the National Park Service to repair Polly Woods Ordinary, Johnson Farm, and Ramsey Cabin - all destinations that tell the story of early life in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
  • You can expect to see revamps at stops all along the way, including Doughton Park Picnic Area, where the original 1940s and '50s picnic tables, campfire pits, and paved paths are in dire need of repair. At Mount Pisgah Amphitheater, the crumbling pavement, sagging benches, and outdated electric system will be redone to create a venue that is comfortable and enjoyable for everyone.

You can help make these improvements and programs possible. Click here for a complete list of the Foundation's 2015 projects. Be sure to look for the Centennial Challenge projects labeled "Matching Gift Opportunity." Every dollar given in support of these projects will be doubled thanks to matching funds!
