New TRACK Trails on the Horizon for Kids in Parks Thanks to a Grant from Blue Cross and Blue Shield
of North Carolina Foundation

Our Kids in Parks program has big news: More trails are on the way across North Carolina! And more TRACK trails mean more happy and healthy

children and families. It's all thanks to a new grant from the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC) Foundation. Kids in Parks, a signature program of the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation, has been awarded $921,000 from the BCBSNC Foundation to continue its work helping kids and families reconnect with nature and improve their health by exploring TRACK Trails together.

Over the next three years, the grant will be used to expand the network of trail adventures throughout North Carolina, with a goal of designating at least one trail in every county. Kids in Parks will also develop an app for mobile devices to guide trekkers on the hiking, canoeing, disc golf, and soon-to-open biking paths.

"Each trail opening amazes me, not just in the amount of openings going on, but how the kids embrace this neighborhood adventure each time," says Jennifer MacDougall, Healthy Living Senior Program Officer with BCBSNC Foundation. "They race to hike the trails at the grand openings like the trails had not existed before. That level of excitement and activity is so refreshing in the age of digital experiences."  Click here to read more.
