The photographer with the winning image in this category will receive a $250 cash award, provided by the Foundation and a gift certificate for outdoor gear. Honoring Mountain Musicians
|
 | Blue Ridge Music Center Program Director Richard Emmett, Mid-day Mountain Musicians Renée Igo and Mark Raynes, and Parkway Superintendent Mark Woods |
Mid-day Mountain Musicians named Parkway Partner Volunteers of the Year by the National Park Service
The National Park Service staff sang the praises of the Blue Ridge Music Center's Mid-day Mountain Music players at the Blue Ridge Parkway's annual Volunteer Awards Luncheon on October 7 at the Folk Art Center. Volunteers all along the Parkway were recognized for sharing their time and talents to assist the Parkway in ways ranging from historic interpretation to trail maintenance. Renée Igo and Mark Raynes, leaders of the Jim Marshall Bluegrass Jam, accepted the Parkway Partner Volunteers of the Year award on behalf of all the musicians who share the spirit of traditional mountain music during daily performances at the Music Center.
"Through your service, visitors to the Blue Ridge Music Center have the wonderful treat of hearing authentic, live music seven days a week, every day the Music Center is open" said Superintendent Woods. "This service over eight visitors seasons [since the opening of the Music Center] likely represents a contribution of over 30,000 volunteer hours. How wonderful to consider how many tunes have floated from instruments during that time."
The free Mid-day Mountain Music sessions take place from noon to 4 p.m. every day of the week. For more details, click here.
2014 Concert Season Finale: The Steep Canyon Rangers + The New Spring Valley Boys play the BRMC on Saturday, October 11. Preshow artists reception ($30) begins at 2 p.m. The concert ($20) begins at 4 p.m. Preshow tickets are limited, so purchase them today by calling (866) 308-2773, ext. 245. Concert tickets are available at www.BlueRidgeMusicCenter.org.

Friends Day at Mast General Stores raises more than $10,000
 | | Mast General Store in Hendersonville |
Thanks to the generosity of Mast General Store, Patagonia, and Patagonia Footwear, as well as customer support, Friends Day was a great success.
Five Mast locations (Asheville, Boone, Hendersonville, and the Valle Crucis Main Store & Annex) donated 10 percent of sales on September 13. The event raised more than $10,000 for the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation. The funding will have a great impact in furthering our efforts to preserve, protect, and enhance the Blue Ridge Parkway.
"Mast General gives so much back to their communities, and it is such an honor to have received their support on Friends Day," said Carolyn Ward, CEO of the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation.
