CANDOR PERFORMANCE

May 1-3, 2014  (Starts TONIGHT!)

Consider this - Consider that the destruction and decay in the world begins with you. Your choices, actions, and deeds breathe acres of rubble into existence. How can we continue to have hope in the midst of our created chaos? Please join Candor, This Weekend! Linfield's American Sign Language performance team, for an introspective look at personal responsibility in a universe full of choices. Is it possible that there IS only one choice that can truly save us from our destruction? Performances will be held from May 1-3 at 7:00 p.m., and there will also be a matinee performance at 2:00 p.m. on May 3. Admission is free!

HOMESTAY PROGRAM

The Linfield community is enriched each year by the addition of students from around the world; domestic students currently sit side by side with students from Korea, Norway, New Zealand, China, Vietnam, Japan, Taiwan, and other countries. This International Program is vital as Linfield continues to address the global nature of our world, especially in the realm of higher education and in the fulfillment of the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20).

Linfield offers students the choice of an "in-house" Host Family Homestay program, and we are currently looking for families who will welcome our international students into their homes and make them a part of their American family. There will be an interest meeting in HS Room 114 on May 8, 2014 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. to address the following considerations:

  • Host home application process (includes fingerprinting, home visit, etc.)
  • Expectations from students / host families (including bedroom, Internet access, etc.)
  • Financial arrangements (hosting includes a monthly stipend)

If you and your family "have love and room to share," and if you welcome the opportunity to make the world a little smaller and would like to be considered as a host family, please email Gay Bennett or contact her office at (951) 676-8111 ext. 3203.

MUSIC UNDER THE STARS

May 16, 2014   6:30 p.m.

Please save the date & plan to join us in the High School plaza on Friday, May 16 at 6:30 p.m. for an evening of "summer fun tunes," featuring performances by Linfield's instrumental and vocal ensembles (Elementary, Middle School and High School). Dinner and pre-concert festivities begin at 5:00 p.m. Click here for a ticket order form.

Our goal is to raise $25,000 to purchase additional pieces of portable Steel Deck staging in order to fully replace the deteriorating and increasingly unsafe wooden stage we use each spring in the gym. We already use the Steel Deck pieces we currently own for events on all three campuses; please join us and help complete the stage!

SENIOR PHOTOS

Each year we create an amazing video of our seniors to be shown as part of the graduation ceremony, and we ask each family to do the following:

1.Gather THREE pictures of your senior student. Please include one senior portrait, one picture as a baby/toddler, and one family candid.

2. Scan and e-mail all photos to seniors2014@linfield.com no later than Wednesday, May 7. Make sure to include the student's name in the email. **Please note: we cannot accept hard copies of photographs.

If you have any questions, please contact the High School Office at 676-8111 ext. 3300.

Fine Arts
SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS

May 22-25, 2014

7:00 p.m. each night: 2:00 p.m. weekend matinees

"Goin' courting" has never been as much fun as in this rip-roaring stage version of the popular MGM movie!  Set in Oregon in 1850, Seven Brides For Seven Brothers tells the story of Milly, a young bride living in the 1850's Oregon wilderness. Her plan to civilize and marry off her six rowdy brothers-in-law to ensure the success of her own marriage backfires when the brothers, in their enthusiasm, kidnap six women from a neighboring town to be their brides. Bursting with the rambunctious energy of the original film, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers is full of boisterous fun and romance that harkens back to the glory days of the movie musical. Make sure to e-mail theatertickets@linfield.com to reserve your tickets!

Linfield's annual River Trip has grown to become the most popular High School SLAMO over the past five years. This summer, 56 students and teachers will be camping under the stars for five days and four nights on the South Fork of the American River (east of Sacramento). Daily adventures, including river rafting, canyoneering, and rock climbing, will be guided by the professionals at Rock-N-Water. The outdoor activities and the times of worship (and s'mores) around the campfire provide many students with the highlight of their summer. The trip is open to all incoming 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students, and the cost is $500. Submit this registration form along with a $100 deposit to Miss Amber Young ASAP to save your spot!

AP EXAM INFORMATION

AP ClassesAs AP testing approaches, we want to communicate with you about the process of AP Exams and school expectations. If you have any questions about AP Exams, please see the 2014 AP Bulletin for Students & Parents.

On the day of a student's scheduled AP exam, they are not expected to attend classes. However, they are expected to still be in uniform, and they are responsible for all make-up work, as they would be with any school activity absence. Please have your student make arrangements with their teachers to turn in any work and to pick up any work that was missed. We value the opportunity to partner with you and your students as they work to achieve their academic goals.
