A MESSAGE FROM OUR PTA PRESIDENT
During Paschal's Annual Student Start-Up (PASS), I was again overwhelmed by what a wonderful melting pot of people PHS is!  So many families, from so many backgrounds, blending together, seeking the best for our students.  It reminded me of some statistics quoted by The Rev. Karl Travis at last spring's Harvest Project (http://www.phsharvestproject.org) luncheon:

"Paschal is a study in contrasts... On one hand, Paschal produces legions of National Merit Scholars, and on the other, poverty and challenge are rampant and obvious."
  • With 2,650 students, Paschal is racially and ethnically diverse: 60% Hispanic, 28 % white, 6 % African American, and remainder Asian, Pacific Islander, Native American.
  • Paschal is diverse socio-economically. Of those 2,650 students, almost 49% are eligible for aid.
  • Paschal's overall graduation rate is 94%, just above the statewide average and well above the FWISD's.  Paschal's dropout rate is 1.3%.
  • 2015 PHS grads are attending over 107 universities and colleges - ranging from Texas A&M, UT, UNT , and UTA to Stanford, MIT, Rice, William and Mary, and Carnegie Mellon.
  • Among those college and university bound last year, there were well over 100 first generation college students.
What does all of this have to do with you joining the PTA?

Travis also referred to Paschal's "delicious diversity of people".  That's what I love, and that's why I volunteer with PTA.  The PTA's mission is to serve the needs of all Paschal students.  Joining is a simple way to invest in each and every one of Paschal's deliciously diverse students.

PTA members volunteer thousands of hours of behind the scene support to teachers and staff, and PTA members donate thousands of dollars to help to bridge the gap left by public funding shortfalls. The PTA benefits the whole with things like emailed Newsblasts to keep parents informed, tutoring, and campus improvements, but it also can also help change a life: last year PTA donated over $10,000 in scholarships to PHS graduating Seniors.

As Dr. Mossige says, "We are Paschal" - and there is so much we can do together! Please choose to join the PTA today at http://paschal.fwisd.org/pages/paschal/Quick_Links/Paschal_PTA.

Physicals for $20 at PHS Band Hall
Thurs., Aug. 27th, 4 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

If your student still needs a medical physical to be eligible to participate in athletics, band, JROTC or Colorguard, the Paschal High School Band has you covered!  We'll have licensed doctors and nurses at the band hall on Thursday, August. 27, 2015 from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. conducting physicals and filling out FWISD medical forms.
The cost is just $20, and all proceeds benefit the award-winning Paschal High School bands and colorguard.  No appointments are necessary.  To download forms in advance, visit the PHS band website at www.paschalpanthers.org and open the "physicals" tab.  Then print both the "consent for charity care" and "medical history" forms.  These forms must be signed by a parent/guardian in advance of treatment.  The band boosters will accept cash or checks (made out to "Paschal Band Boosters").

Site-Based-Decision-Making Team Openings

The site-based decision-making team (SBDM) at Paschal High School has two (2) parent volunteer openings.  The position is for a two (2) year term: 2015-2017. An election will be held during Open House on September 8, 2015.  Want to be on the ballot?? Compose a short bio about why you would like to serve and email it to: Christine.cole@fwisd.org by September 1.
PARENT CRITERIA:  (elected by parents only with the election to be supervised by the predominant parent group; membership in the predominant parent group is not required). A parent is a person who is a parent of, or who stands in parental relation to, a student enrolled in the District. A parent representative cannot be a FWISD employee.
SBDM MISSION STATEMENT:
The purpose of site-based decision-making (SBDM) in the FWISD is to improve student achievement. Through SBDM, many significant decisions at the campus level will benefit from a consideration of the perspectives of all stakeholders. These decisions involve administrators, teachers, parents, business representatives and community members as partners in the business of increasing student achievement.
