A Message from PTA President Dennis Johnson

Greetings,

With my oldest graduating from Paschal this year, my perspective is slightly different than writing last year's wrap up column.  Our seniors are a big focus of the PTA, including the recent PTA Scholarship Breakfast where many of our seniors were awarded $1000 scholarships, and of course, Senior Celebration, a PTA sponsored drug/alcohol free party held immediately following our graduation ceremony on Wednesday.

Of course, the PTA is about our entire school body and nearly doubling our membership this year to over 700 strong has made us more effective in this regard.  Why couldn't we have 1000 members next year?  YOU can make the difference in that regard!

Finally, the end of the school year has other exciting items, including the PTA's final teacher/staff appreciation event to be held on the last day of school.  We increased the number of appreciation events this year, because what could be more important than recognizing the lifeblood of Paschal, our wonderful teachers & staff?!  And what could be more satisfying at the end of the year than sharing that the hard work and generosity of the PTA was once again able to fund numerous teacher and classroom Wish List items that Paschal wouldn't have been able to obtain funding for in any other way?!

Most importantly, thanks to all of you for your efforts to improve the Paschal community this past year.

Enjoy your summer!

Dennis

Our tremendous thanks to our wonderful computer science coach, Mr. Gary Hicks, who will be retiring after this year from FWISD. He came out of semi-retirement 8 years ago to teach programming classes at PHS and has led the many teams he's coached over the years to multiple district, regional and state championships.  His retirement is a large loss for PHS, but we wish him all the best for the future.

News from Advanced Academics

Summer Courses at Paschal: We still have room in our redesigned PSAT/SAT Summer Course in all sessions but Session 1 has only 15 spots available. The SAT Boot Camp also has 4 spaces available. The Countdown to College course is full but contact Pam if you are interested in squeezing in.

Don't miss out on the opportunity to begin learning the new formal of the SAT/PSAT by attending the summer course. Not only have we aligned our course to meet the new standards but we strongly feel the more familiar students are with the exam the better score they can achieve.

All registration forms are available at paschalhs.org or you can call The Advanced Academics Office at 817.814.5041 for more information.

PHS PTA FINAL FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE UPDATE:

During the school year, our fundraising committee raised a total of close to $58,000! This money includes our Write-a- Check campaign in the fall and our parent party this spring. Thank you to all who participated. The final income from our Parent Party at Pop's was close to $17,000! We tried two new fundraisers this year and we hope that you liked them, as we are planning them again for next year. We are excited to announce that the PTA was able to fund $29,000 in teacher wish list requests that included items such as: Turnitin online software, TI Navigator Calculators for Math, an Etching Press for Art, Cabinets for Orchestra instruments, additional stone bench and tree replacement in front of the school and a much needed redo for the Teachers lounge bathroom! The other funds raised went towards partial funding of Naviance, scholarships for graduating seniors and helping to fund Senior Celebration.

Once again, THANK YOU for the money that you donated to PHS. Your hard earned dollars are helping us to achieve our goals of providing the best services possible to ALL of our students. We will need your help again next year and would love any feedback on fundraising ideas. Feel free to email Jill Black at jillblack68@yahoo.com or click here to take survey to share your thoughts on how we can improve or what ideas you liked or didn't like and we really hope to continue to grow our Write a Check campaign next fall with even more families participating.
