A Message from

PTA President Dennis Johnson

Greetings!  As we wrap up the first six weeks of school; hopefully things have settled into a rhythm for you and your student. This also seems like a good time to brag on the school a bit...

1.  Congrats to Dr. Bret Stewart for recently being named one of 10 teacher representatives of excellence in teaching by Fort Worth Magazine.  This selection came from a nomination pool of over 600.  Way to go Dr. Stewart!

2.  The entire faculty and administration at Paschal earned Distinction Designation for 2014 in five areas from the Texas Education Agency; making Paschal what you already knew it was, a Five Gold Star School...Way to go for all involved!

3.  I can't help but brag on the PTA a bit as well.  The PTA helps Paschal reach greater heights in numerous ways, including            providing necessary funding for teacher wish lists, teacher appreciation, the Naviance system, grounds beautification and maintenance, and many other items.  As you have heard by now, the PTA is doing a Write A Check (WAC) campaign as our primary fundraiser this year.  See the article below for more information.

Please support your school by giving generously!

12 PASCHAL SENIORS HONORED

AS NATIONAL MERIT SEMIFINALISTS

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) announced that 13 Fort Worth ISD students are Semifinalists in the 60th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.  Twelve of the honored students are Paschal seniors:

  • Elizabeth W. Anderson
  • Anna C. Cook
  • Hayley M. Kuhlmann
  • Sarah Mockler
  • Maxwell Murray
  • Edward Q. Nguyen
  • Wellington Owen
  • Noelle M. Rutledge
  • Matthew J. Stone
  • Mary Taylor
  • Eric V. Tilley
  • Christine M. Vonder Haar

These academically talented students have an opportunity to continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships that will be offered next spring.  About 90 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and more than half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar® title.

PASCHAL RIFLE TEAM MEMBER WINS BRONZE

IN TWO NATIONAL SHOOTING COMPETITIONS

Paschal High School senior and JROTC rifle team member Isela Velazquez came in third place at the National Junior Olympics in June, winning a bronze medal in the shooting competition.  She also came in third at the American Legion's National Championship at the U.S. Olympic Center in Colorado Springs in August.

Velazquez was recently named a "gold distinguished shooter" by the Civilian Marksmanship Program.  Only 802 marksmen nationally out of more than 300,000 competitors have been given this honor, recognized for finishing in the top 25 percent in six or more national shooting championships.  Last spring Velazquez won the Army Services Championship shooting competition, making her the number 1 high school student "sporter" category army rifle marksman in the nation.  She will defend her title this spring in Alabama.

Paschal's JROTC has won nine national championships in team and individual shooting competitions over the past 11 years under the leadership of Lt. Col. Terry LeBoeuf.  Velazquez has only been shooting for three years, joining Paschal's rifle team her freshman year.

Velazquez is Paschal's JROTC Cadet Battalion Commander, the student leader of the school's 250 JROTC members, and is also a member of the National Honor Society for academic achievement.  Velazquez plans to attend TCU in the fall and join their NCAA Women's  Rifle Team and study nursing.
